D&D 5E Additional character material for the 5e rules expansion book

I guess that the hype about the upcoming 5e rules expansion book is largely about big deals such as Psionics, other possible new classes, archetypes and rules modules.

But how about the "smaller bits" of character material? We've seen some of them published in UA articles (many of them not very balanced IMHO), including at least spells, feats and optional fighting styles. Are you wishing to get also that sort of fine-tuning additions to 5e, or are you not interested at all?

Personally I would be very happy to get even just a few additions here and there, especially in the form of base class abilities options or archetypes abilities options, because I think that often even a small addition can significantly increase the variety of a class.

For example, new Fighting Styles would apply to 3 different classes, and help strengthen the tactical identity of a PC in a different direction. I liked the idea of Tunnel Fighting but not so much the implementation, so I hope it gets revised but then included in the book. I would also like to see a new style based on using a shield, but not aimed at protecting an ally.

Other things I'd like to see are new Hunter's abilities (especially Hunter's Prey), new Totem Warrior's animals (as in SCAG), and new Monk's abilities for the Path of the Four Elements. They really don't need to be many, even 1-2 additions can "round up" each class nicely.

Possibly also some new Circle of the Land's terrain option, if they come up with a good idea...

Feats are another matter. I don't understand why many hate them, and I would certainly like to have several more available, as long as they are well-designed of course.

OTOH I have not much interested in new spells, except perhaps a few more summoning, but in general despite the relatively low number of spells in 5e I have not had the feeling that we need many more.

Finally, I'd love some new equipment... once again they don't need to be huge numbers, but for example 2-3 new types of armor or even shields, perhaps of higher complexity (such as a trade-off) for players who like tactical choices.

I don't know if you'd count magical items as "player material"... but I would definitely like to see more magic items in the book.

Feats are perhaps the weakest area of 5e. As you said, as long as they are well designed they are good. The trouble is, most of them in the PHB aren't well designed. There are a good many that are terrible. That's fine as it just wastes space. But then there are some which are too good/result in play that isn't fun.

I'd like to see more feats in the hopes of getting more good choices.

Which UA had spells, I don't remember new spells?

I think some new races would be cool, including setting specific races Changelings, Shifters (okay 4e made Shifters less setting specific and FR had prototype changelings), Warforged, Muls, Shadar Kai, Kender, Minotaurs, Shades, Thrikreen, etc...

Some Psionic races like Meadeans (may have misspelled that), would be good too.

Vryloka, Satyrs, Nymphs, would be cool too.

I'd like to see an optional Stances System, that replaces Fighting Styles for the warrior types if it is used. Warrior types could start with several of them that they could switch between, and learn new ones as they leveled. This way, just like spellcasters have something to look forward to when more spells are published, warriors have something to look forward to with expansions (without the need to start a character over at low level to try a single fighting style).

I think the following feats would interest me:

* Psychic feats
* +1 to a str or dex and get a fighting style
* A touch of ranger or touch of paladin (possibly something like you can use your action to turn something) feat like magic initiate or martial adept
* A magically gifted feat that let's you cast 1 2nd level spell from any class per long rest (not available to variant humans as a starter feat)

Count me in for more totems.

Given the warlock UA had new invocations, I would be good with more (particularly for the chainlock, which didn't get any in the UA). If they have new invocations, new metamagic and new elemental monk things seem appropriate.

Almost certainly there will be new spells. I doubt there will be any new summoning/raising the dead spells, unless they are like the conjure demon spells that had higher risk for using them (although as someone who primarily DM's, I have to say I really like high risk\high reward spells--anything the PC's can do that creates problems for themselves saves me from having to do it).

I would love new fighting styles. I hate all of the existing styles other than Shield. I think the styles should offer bonus actions and reactions instead of just straight bonuses. Stances would be cool too; they'd compare well against cantrips.

If one enjoys playing spell casters or enjoys having a variety of magical options in the game, one can never have enough spells.
