D&D 5E DAD DND Podcast - Fantasy League For Fathers

DAD DND

First Post
So, who in the hell am I, and what is DAD DND?

I'm a forty-nine year old father of a one year old daughter. I first began playing Dungeons & Dragons over forty years ago. Playing DnD (or D&D) and other role-playing games were a big part of my life for the following two decades. Over the last twenty years, while I have played here and there, I haven't been able to sneak my teeth into a good ol' regular DnD game for awhile now. And with being a dad now, my time is even more limited. My DnD experiences are now lived vicariously through others on various Dungeons & Dragons game podcasts. Having co-hosted a podcast for over a year and a half now (Starmageddon - a podcast for fans of Star Trek AND Star Wars) I figured why not get together four or five other dads that are itching to play, utilize an online virtual tabletop, record the shenanigans, and produce a podcast called DAD DND? So... That's what I plan to do.

For more info on DAD DND please check out the DAD DND Facebook page and/or follow @daddndcom on Twitter. You can also bookmark dandnd.com and be on the ground floor when the site launches in full.

If you're interested in being one of the players on the DAD DND podcast I'm going to ask that you submit a short audio clip telling me about your yourself. This will give me a good idea of who sounds comfortable on mic and how well their recording set up is. These are both important elements for a successful podcast. Neither have to be top-notch professional quality, but sounding decent is a big plus.

At this point DAD DND will be an audio podcast and NOT a video streamed presentation. While we will be utilizing a virtual tabletop such as Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds, we're just going to present the audio portion to our listeners. (Personally, I have a face for podcasting and not video streaming.)

So what do you do with your recorded audio file? Either email the file or the file link to daddnd.com@gmail.com and I'll give it a listen.

What info should you include in your introduction?

Name, age, and location.
Experience playing Dungeons & Dragons.
Your "dad life" (such as number of kids, ages, etc...)
The times (days of the week and time) your available to play/record.
The type of character you would enjoy playing (race, class, alignment, etc...)
A fun dad and/or D&D anecdote.
And anything else you feel might be pertinent.

I know this might seem like an "audition" process and perhaps a bit pretentious, but I feel it might be the best way to get the best team. Any questions?

For those of you wondering what sort of campaign will be run... Players need to stick to what is in the Player's Handbook. No supplemental rules. No house rules. No options from other sources. It's going to be tough enough to run a game online without mucking it up with more gobbilygoo. Rules lawyers and power-crunchers need not apply. This is going to be a fun laid back game. Humor yes. Silly no. The DM does have the option to fudge rolls and mix things up as needed for story development. Actual play will lean more towards "theater of the mind" than strategic table-top calculations and measures. Some rules may be streamlined to keep the game flowing smoothly.

Two episodes of the DAD DND podcast have been released so far. Even if you're not a dad, you'll enjoy this "actual play podcast" featuring five dads just trying to find the time to sneak an hour of playing Dungeons & Dragons. You can find it on the following podcast provider platforms:

You can also find the podcast and more information at daddnd.com.
May you make all of your saving throws.
