D&D 5E interview with Jeremy Crawford on Eberron: Rising from the Last War

Here is a roughly hour-long interview podcast I found a few minutes ago where Jeremy Crawford answers some questions about Eberron: Rising from the Last War from the folks over at What Would The Smart People Do?

There are some technical issues with the audio. Just so you are aware.

Highlights include:

- Warforged no longer have subraces, but have some options for customization.

- Warforged gain a +1 bonus to AC, instead of Integrated Protection.

- Each area explored in the book will have information on how that specific area was affected by the Last War.

- the Homunculus is now accessible to the Artificer class, rather than the Alchemist subclass.

- the Alchemist subclass itself will focus more on potion making.

If they're changing the way that Warforged work, are they going to update the Wayfarer's Guide to Eberron?

Do we know how linked that is to "official WotC 5e rules" moving forward? Are they going to put the Artificer into Wayfarer's Guide as promised before?

Does anyone have any insight into that at this point? It just seems like a lot of re-hash between the two, publications and I really don't want to shell out for the new book. At this point, I feel cheated having bought the Wayfarer's Guide at this point.

During an earlier interview with Dragon Talk (maybe?) Crawford said that the updated races and Artificer mechanics would be included in WGtE, although only one subclass will be attached to it (can’t remember which one though) in that PDF.

EDIT
Found the comparison list:

They have said the Artificer, just the Alchemist, will be added to Wayfinders Guide, and the options in there already will be updated to match this book.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but Greg Tito actually supplied the word counts if both books a few weeks ago: Rising from the Last War is overwhelmingly new verbiage, like 3-1 new words to reprinted ratio.

Also, new art.

That's good to hear on the alignment, though frustrating on their only being one subclass.

From what I've heard of the "new verbiage" content is that it's also overwhelmingly Eberron nation fluff. I don't need all that stuff. I have all the 3.5 Eberron Lore, etc. I just need the updated 5e crunch and in order to get that, I now have to buy the 2nd book for what amounts to a couple of subclasses.

I'll look at it compared to the Wayfarer's when it's actually published, but I'm frustrated that it's even a decision point that I have to worry about. WotC co-produced/branded the Wayfarer's Guide, it's even on D&D Beyond for goodness sake. This book shouldn't just be a rehash of that one to any real degree.

I don't buy my D&D rule books for the art, so that means nothing to me from a decision point. I like it, but it wouldn't move me to buy a book over not.

I'm really excited about them refocusing on potion making for the Alchemist. I still think it could be an entire class of its own (as it is in that other RPG) but at least seeing some better focus for it would be nice.

LOUD BOOOOOOOING! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I just can't get over how dumb/cheap those changes are. The way they'd executed both was brilliant and relatively well-balanced. I gotta figure they changed the AC thing just to make it so magic armour mattered to them.

Integrated Protection was, in my opinion, too strong as written on Wayfinder’s Guide. But a simple +1 AC is swinging too far the other direction.

Agreed on both counts.

I think if they'd bumped the dex on Medium to 3 and done away with proficiency stacking on, it would have been fine. That would top each level out at 16 AC for the Integrated Armor + shields if they have them.

Then let them still wear armor if they want to put on that +1 Plate mail or something to get
