Spiders are cute

Hm, spiders and such don't bother me, I think they're neat in a creepy sort of way.

I agree, that while some people are freaked out by arachnids, others might think they are kind of cute. I think they are. Some of the bigger ones, don't even look like spiders. They sort of look like little eight legged furballs.

I saw a program not long ago on what animals most people fear and the number one feared animal was microscopic worms. I concur. Ick.

Well, it depends on the exact type of "scare" you're trying to induce.

If you're trying to go for disgusting or revolting, there's always creepy things, things with more than 4 legs, slimy things, and rotten things.

If you're trying to go for a tense atmosphere, then go with "things that suddenly pop up and go BOO!", such as aliens that explode from people's chests without warning, snipers, ninjas, creepy things that pop out of the ground suddenly, and robots that suddenly go berserk and try to destroy all humans.

If you're trying to invoke mindless terror....well, I've never really understood that. I think I might have been nerve-stapled as a child and therefore am permanently anesthetized to the very idea.

There are two things that scare me more than anything else:

One of these are Clowns

Ahhh! I hate clowns! They are evil! That perpetual smile they are always carrying freaks me out the most. Argh, they just are evil, I don't even know why, they just scare the :):):):) out of me! Undead clowns would kick scary-ass!

But even more scary than clowns, more scary than anything at all in the entire world, are Porcelain dolls!!!!!!! Aaaah! I can't stand being in the same room as a porcelain doll! I'd rather not be in the same house! Dolls like Chucky (From the silly movies) aren't scary, because he has a funny face! He can express emotion, he seems so alive! But porcelain dolls, oh no, they don't look happy, they don't look angry, they don't even look dead or alive, they are just there! And they want to kill you, and they do! You never see them move, you never see the claws on their fingers, you might hear the scratching, but you will never see them do it. They might move, they might suddenly sit somewhere else. But NEVER EVER will a porcelain doll let you know it is alive, that it wants to kill you, let you know it is more than just a toy! No, you will never know, you will just die, They will find your impaled, tortured body in the morning, and they will wonder why you didn't struggle, they will wonder where the claw marks come from, but the porcelain doll won't be bloody, no, it won't even have claws! It will sit where it used to, not bothering anyone, all by it self. Silent.

Argh. I just reminded my self of my porcelain doll-phobia.

Ps. Oh, and another scary thing I saw at my friends house the other day: A baby-doll with burnt out eyes! Aaagh!

Evil or undead children. The image that stayed with me after watching the ring was that of the girl, obviously dead, looking at you, she just seemed so hateful.

The idea of an evil child is so horrific as children are supposed to be the embodiment of innocence, the idea of one being born evil just freaks me out.

Devil Dolls

But even more scary than clowns, more scary than anything at all in the entire world, are Porcelain dolls!!!!!!!

Yeah...dolls are pretty creepy. You could have your players wander into town, and end up at some sort of toy shop run by an evil mage who's put some evil spell on all the dolls. Now that's good old fashioned nightmare fuel right there.

When I was little, my parents got me tons of porcelin dolls. I recently came across a picture of them, all lined up on my bureau, waiting for the right moment to attack unsuspecting passersby. They used to scare the daylights out of me. I recall having nightmares in which they'd come alive and attack.

To everyone who drives likes idiots out there: look what you've done.

PS : Arthur Tealeaf...

This made me sad. And it made me think of the scariest thing of all, some people's selfish complete lack of thought, or consideration for anything or anyone else's feelings. I'm sorry about your cats :(

I hope the idiots who hit them felt some remorse, because if not, THAT is terrifying.
