Personally, I'm glad it's not longer acceptable to treat people with dementia as figures of ridicule. Dragonlance managed to be offensive to practically everyone, and that's one that hits me personally.
Hard to reconcile any degree of enduring (even today) popularity and good feelings with the lacking in evidence theory that Dragonlance managed to be "offensive to practically everyone". If you're offended by Dragonlance, just say that. It's ok to not like something for your own reasons. Plenty of things I don't like.

As the child of a recently deceased "doddering old man" I beg to differ. I take it that you have no loved ones with dementia. And are not First Nation. Or short. Or struggle with maths. Or homeless.
Again, if you're offended, just say that. Don't try to lump "practically everyone" in with you. It implies that there's something wrong with people who disagree with you.

I predict the Forgotten Realms archmage will be Laeral Silverhand, the current Open Lord of Waterdeep. She's a central figure surrounded by the Sword Coast storylines, and is a known meddler.
I think that's unlikely. The adventure blurb says "some of the multiverse's most famous archmages". Laeral Silverhand may be a big deal on the Sword Coast, but she's not "multiverse-famous".

I'd say the main candidates are the ones that have spells named after them in the PHB; Tasha, Mordekainen, Bigby and ... Leomund? ... Melf?

Given the big emphasis on multiple settings coming together, I'd expect the three to each be from a different one. That's why I'm putting my marker on it being the glorious return of the Wizards Three; Elminster, Mordenkainen, and Dalamar. This book is heavy on the callbacks, and the Wizards Three were a mainstay of Dragon Magazine back in the day.

They might pull in Raistlin for DL ... but if so, I predict much unhappiness in certain quarters.

Cox isn't quite the same level as creative as Mearls, Mike was a great spokesman for the game and building bridges between old and new fans but he certainly gives it the old college try if it weren't for the out of context quotes I think he would have a higher regard. Winninger was a change in approach to the game, not for the better I think which is a shame because he's a darn good game designer.

Cocks isn't a creative at all, he's CEO of Hasbro, he's the type that exploits those who are creative and talented for profit. Did you mean Jeremy Crawford?

Winninger might have made a few choices that weren't good, its hard to say who decided or came up with what, but he was GREAT at transparency and communication and he was clear in his opposition to the OGL scandal and it might have been the thing he left over.

The people after Winninger are a deep cause for concern. CEO Cynthia Williams, Vice President of D&D I forget his name, and Jeremy Crawford who design philososphy on setting is aweful.

Both Dalamar and Mordenkainen have appeared in 5e adventures, and Elminster has been referenced multiple times (and his snarky notes VGtM might count as an "appearance"; also he plays an important role in BG3, even if its just his simulacrum). If the number of archmages is indeed three, this would seem to be a pretty logical guess. And it's surprising that Elminster hasn't shown up in a printed 5e product, so he's actually somewhat overdue.
