For some reason, this post makes me want to create a setting where wizardry is a magical tradition handed down by dragons and the orders are white, black, green, blue and red, and copper, brass, Bronze, silver and gold.Just a mention: there is only one official D&D setting where wizards wear colour-coded outfits, Dragonlance. And in that setting those colours are black, red and white. This art is Dragonlance compatible, whereas the previous version was not.
Bonus points if you get rid of the 8 traditional schools and divide up the spell list into 10 dragon colors. For some reason, this post makes me want to create a setting where wizardry is a magical tradition handed down by dragons and the orders are white, black, green, blue and red, and copper, brass, Bronze, silver and gold.
I can certainly understand shoulder pad hate (especially if it borders on Warcraft levels of insanity). This one doesn’t bother me so much. It’s pretty much a historical fact that those with power made sure people knew it by wearing overly-ornamented clothing. Have you seen the engraved abs on ceremonial amor in museums? Not to mention the cod pieces…heh. And any clothing worn by such people almost always had elaborate embroidery and the like, even for their ‘day to day’ wear. It’s not my favorite, but it’s not bad. The only thing I really don’t like are the shoulder pads, but I hate that style in general (e.g., the huge shoulder pads in WoW). The only thing worse would be if it had too many belts.
Exactly! The question isn’t “why would a wizard look so clean and fancy?”. It’s “why wouldn’t a wizard want to look clean and fancy?”. Especially with the sort of wealth and power a high level wizard usually has access to (and there’s no way this illustration is a low level wizard). It's weird to think that people in fantasyland would not want to look cool and confident and attractive, just like us.
And let's be honest, the pictures they use in the PHB are the equivalent of the character's profile post on Instagram. I'm sure Sister Billy just wears pants and a hoodie while doing normal adventurer stuff. It's weird to think that people in fantasyland would not want to look cool and confident and attractive, just like us.
Okay, now we need a series of all the iconics taking selfies while adventuring. And let's be honest, the pictures they use in the PHB are the equivalent of the character's profile post on Instagram. I'm sure Sister Billy just wears pants and a hoodie while doing normal adventurer stuff.
It's funny how sexy female characters are really only a problem when their attractiveness isn't designed explicitly for the male gaze.Yeah, characters can be attractive without being over-sexualized, and I would say this character does so easily.
It's unfortunate the Necromancer is not going to be in the PHB, because I have a pretty clear picture of what a female Necromancer Wizard looks like.
