In this video about the upcoming revised Player’s Handnook, WotC’s Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins reveal a few new tidbits.
  • The books are near final and almost ready to go to print
  • Psionic subclasses such as the Soulknife and Psi Warrior will appear in the core books
  • Named spells have art depicting their creators.
  • There are new species in the PHB.

They stated the books are bigger ("eye widening" for the PBH they say), and considering they're making XGE and TCE obsolete, that content needs to go somewhere.
Pretty sure I remember them saying the stuff left over from XGE and TCE that doesn't get plugged into a new core book will get republished in a standalone book (they could call it "Xanathar's and Tasha's Tasty Leftovers").

There's a bunch of classes from the 2014 PHB that are leftover too, like the Tempest Cleric and the Necromancer Wizard.

All Psi subclasses are coming forward into core 2024
Illustrations of spells will include those who created named spells.
Art for species will share them in groups in their typical pre-adventuring scenes
Internal playtest continued after the UA
They are in pre-print which is near final
Thanks for saving me 20 minutes.

I'm glad that the races have become species. The cross-breeding was getting out of control.

Now if they'd follow suit and make the Classes into Archetypes (warrior, wizard, rogue), the evolution from 3e would be complete.

Given that the buckler was a shield they can't do that at all. And swashing was walking with a swagger and a sword.

But they need some sort of acrobatics and deception bonuses at the least, rather than just attacks.
I've always felt that the swashbuckler should be a fighter subclass, rather than a rogue. Rogue can't use a scimitar or cutlass, and can't use a buckler, leading to the subclass not able to do anything which people picture it doing.

You given of the new version of the Wizards 3, of the 3 wizards, only High Lady Alustriel Silverhand doesn't have a book named after her, that she gets that one. Alustriel Silverhand's Trunk of Magical Leftovers.

It probably is, as we haven't had an instance where a PHB 2014 subclass has been replaced by one from Tasha's or Xanathar's. But if there was one that could be, then it might be the Assassin I guess.
Assassin would make sense, under similar logic to the justification for the removal of the Assassin class in 2e - anyone who commits political murder and/or murder for higher is an assassin, so having it be a subclass is a bit unusual. More importantly, they’ve struggled to come up with a satisfying version of the Assassinate feature. Players want such a feature to significantly increase damage, but the designers don’t one one subclass to have significantly higher damage output than the others (to their credit, I think). So, rather than continue to struggle to crack that nut, cut the subclass and replace it with a psychic subclass, since that’s something there’s a certain demand for anyway.

EDIT: Presumably Psi Knight replaced Brawler.
