    What was Alternity like?

I see a LOT posters commenting on how much they liked Alternity. What was special about it? Are there any games or components of games recently that implement Alternity rules?

    What's a "typical" campaign length?

I've been reading on the boards today about all the games out there. It's really a lot, even without the d20 bandwagon. There's oodles of high quality stuff that i didn't even know existed until i see people vouching for them here, then i go and buy it and agree! Anyway, it got me thinking...

    Mongoose's New Monster Book

Any opinions? I haven't seen it yet nor read any reviews. Anyone own it? I'm obviously short of monster books as i own only 12. Maybe a Moongooser can tell us a little of what the content is like. There's nothing i love more than a good monster book, especially grittier ones along the lines of...

    What is Dawnforge?

I suppose i know what it is, high fantasy in an age where heroes haven't tromped around yet. It's from Fantasy Flight (probably my favorite company) and it's from Greg Benage, a creator of Midnight. But i've never seen it or heard reviews about it. Can anyone elaborate? I'm a huge fan of the...

    Ars Magica d20

I started this in another thread but wanted to elaborate. Anyone who has played Ars Magica please let me know if this conversion to d20 sounds feasible, or if it can be tweaked/improved. I'm not done writing it up yet. I LOVE Ars Magica, 4th edition, but i've never had the pleasure to acutally...

    Conan d20 Atlantean

Just picked up Conan at my local store and i really like it. Seems like a great way to emulate the original books, and it's a plum pretty book. SO, that said, can anyone fill me in on the other supplements in this line? How are the Scrolls of Skelos, or the boxed set for Shazidar, or any of the...

    Tell me about Blue Rose

I'm not really sure what this is about. I heard "romance" and DnD at one point, but the two don't really mix well in my mind. Can anyone shed some light?

    Let's talk about HARP

Per several suggestions yesterday, i downloaded the free HARP Lite. Now, after perusing it last night I have several things to say, and wanted to see what anyone else thought. First, i was a little thrown off by the initial distribution of skill ranks and bonuses. At the core, the system looks a...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

The reviews i've read about this are generally positive, although nearly all cite a need of re-editing. That aside, who has this, and how does it compare to 3.x of the game? I already don't use a lot of AoO because it bogged my game down, and other reviewers say they have house-ruled feats back...

    Introducing Magic into Cthulhu d20

I'm running Masks of Nyarlathotep for my group and they just reached 2nd level and made it to the London scenario. On the way over, the bookseller character studied Africa's Dark Sects and learned Create Corpsewalker, and then made a series of checks to read a Latin version of Vermiis Mysteris...

Who has used Elements of Magic Revised?

I bought this the other day and i THINK i like it, but it's a little complicated, maybe because i'm just not used to it and haven't playtested it yet. Does anyone else have pros or cons with the system? I'd been wanting to adapt Ars Magica anyway to d20, and this system is pretty durn close...

Why does DnD make force you to have magic to get better?

DnD assumes that as you advance in levels you can best increase AC via magic rings, spells, armor and shields. Enemies with high AC invariably wear rings of protection or bracers +4, with magic chainmail and whatnot. But what about a system that wasn't SO DEPENDENT on having magic to ever...

Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

ok, fellas, for those who've played both, how do they compare? I've played Halo2--good game, but i loved the first one too. Pros? Cons? Halo2 single player campaign's on the short side, even on Heroic. And it LOOKS like the first game, which isn't bad, but not real different, which would have...

What's the scariest thing that has happened to your characters?

I want to get an idea of the most horrifying situations in DnD where you (the player) have been either mortified about what happened or is about to happen, or you have unfathomable apprehension concerning the fate of your beloved character. What were the circumstances? What led to them? How'd...

Should shields count against touch attacks?

I was thinking the other day after reading another thread about how shields aren't as useful in DnD as they are in real life. So, a touch attack only has to bypass Dex and deflection and maybe a few other special AC bonuses, but in general it's pretty easy. But would throwing a shield up to...

    Ars Magica

Has anyone seen this game? The first edition came out many many years ago, and the fifth edition comes out next month. It has a great spell system, very innovative, and great Flaw and Virtue system. I want to adopt it to d20, but it will be a considerable change. I mean, the magic system is...

    Complete Divine Full Page Art

This reminded me very much of the 2nd Ed. days with the full color panels. I've really been missing that from 3rd edition, and thought it was great that they added it back. That picture of Tiamat is wonderful and very evocative. I hope this is a trend they're setting with the full page art.

    Gaming Boards and suggestions

I've been using battleboards for years and have gradually upped the complexity and size. I recently began editing photographs in photoshop and layering them with one inch grids. So i have ice caverns and plant forests and such, looks pretty good. Anyway, Dragon magazine sometimes releases pull...
