    Book of NPCs 2.0

Excellent stuff. It's much appreciated, and will see a lot of use round these here parts.

What is so special about Greyhawk?

Greyhawk is chock full of evocative ideas, from the Scarlet Brotherhood and Horned Society to the mad mayor of Greyhawk City or the Mage of the Valley. Just like any good D&D setting, it is full of adventure potential at every turn. That, combined with a slightly grittier feel than most pre-3e...

Tell me about your D&D group

Ok, I've got three groups, so I'll pop them down as A, B and C Group A:18 years give or take, with two new members recruited a few months ago. Group B:2 years. Group C:About 3 months. Me- 30 Male, Warehouse supervisor A: 31 Male Unemployed/30 Male Unemployed/27 Male Recruitment Officer/25...

Do people really want/use fan adventures?

I'm looking forward to seeing some fan created adventures. I might not use them in their entirety, but a map here, an encounter there and a little inspiration (or even the odd plagiarisation) for my home game can always be welcomed. Plus, a good adventure can help to get a handle on how the...

    Favorite third party monster book

Dangerous Denizens. It's always felt like a cool 'low level' monster book, in spite of the handful of high CR creatures, which is a good thing IMO. I've used it more than most of my other books, and it's mechanics are spot on. My only complaints are the region maps, which are useless in my copy...

What to do with a Player who doesn't like his class

Ask him if he wants to switch classes. I've had the same situation crop up, and I just let the player in question rebuild their PC into something they like- the most recent case was a new-ish player switching out her cleric levels for fighter. It might not make a whole lot of 'in game' sense...

Your Top 5/10 Favorite WotC Supplementary Rulebooks

    1. Expanded Psionics Handbook. 2. Unearthed Arcana. 3. Magic of Incarnum. 4. Manual of the Planes. 5. Miniatures Handbook. Hmm, given that most of my books are either setting specific or 3rd party, it's hard to make a top 10. I will give honourable mention to the Book of Vile Darkness and...

    Villian Exposes

I've pulled this one a few times, mainly to give the players an idea of the BBEG's plans when they seem to be struggling with what I consider obvious clues. Then again, I'm a fan of using a lot of 'cinematic' tricks in my games- cut scenes, flashbacks and in media res opening scenes- it's all...

"72 hours earlier" (flash forward scenes)

Yep, I've done it a few times. Mostly when running supers games- it works really well for them to let the players throw their powers around and foreshadow the powers of the big bad. I also started my current FR campaign with "Roll for init" and the party fighting Fire Giants...after a couple of...

    Your own personal gaming terms...

Maxing B*****d: A munchkin, min/maxer etc...we'd used this in group for ages, and were quite surprised to see that other gamers had no idea what we meant by it. The Plot Golem: Whenever a blatantly Plot Important NPC or clue turns up to coerce the players onto the right road, there may be a...

What Do You Want To See In The Digital Initiative?

I'm not a fan of the online format, and outside of forums, news and the odd webcomic I don't use the net for much. However, if WoTC can put articles of the same quality and breadth as those we saw in Dragon (and Dungeon quality adventures) then I might be tempted to have a look see. (Never say...

Am I missing something about the OGL/D20 license?

Ok, thanks Jeremy. I hadn't realised the SRD came about late in the game- I'd thought it was there from day 1.

Am I missing something about the OGL/D20 license?

OK, given the recent rumblings and doings out of WoTC lately, I'm starting to wonder whether the D20 license itself will survive much longer. Now, I'm under the impression that the OGL can't be revoked, it's around forever right? However, a while back we all remember the Mind Flayer, Yuan-Ti et...

    Why I WON'T boycott WotC

I won't be boycotting WoTC, but that's primarily because I stopped buying their stuff about 6 months ago. The last Wizards book I bought was Magic of Incarnum- and nothing else they put out in the past year or so appeals to me whatsoever. (Espcecially not the rackin' frackin' random minis) I...

Who is interested in the Digital Initiative?

Nope, I have no interest in an online magazine. I like to chat to folks on message boards, follow movie news and the like, but when it comes to my gaming materials I want something I can read on the loo, in the bath etc, etc...and I have less interest in electronic gaming tools. If I won't use...

Lorraine Williams vs. Scott Rouse (aka Shooting the Messenger)

I don't dislike either of them to be honest. I've never met either of them, and despite their parts in the history, however recent, of gaming I don't see much point in feeling animosity to someone who is to all intents and purposes, the visible part of a faceless company.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

I've been buying Dragon since January 1993- #189 to be specific, and it was that first issue that got me into this wonderful hobby to start with. I'm sad to see it all come to an end after 14 years of amazing material, but I have high hopes for the future of Paizo's publications.

    Calling on All Dragon Enthusiasts!!!

Balagos was very cool, I agree on that one. However, my favourite was always Daurgothoth- the Dracolich in the Realms who keeps multiple spare bodies on standby. My players had their behinds handed to them by that scary wyrm several times.

    Monstrous Arcana - Sahuagin

I didn't buy any of the adventures, but I own (and love) all three of the MA books- Sea Devils, I, Tyrant and Illithiad. IMO they're excellent books which add a lot of flavour to the subject creatures.

Best First Level Module for New Players

Another vote for Wizard's Amulet/Crucible of Freya. I've used them along with the web supplements for CoF to run several fun little campaigns, and CoF as a stand alone campaign opener about half a dozen times now. In fact, I'm seriously thinking about using it again for my new group in a couple...
