RPG Evolution: "Why is the Tarrasque on the Table?"

Interesting points. I have put out the really big D&D minis like the Bulette or a dragon where some players can catch site of them and get nervous. Then after I place them on the table - and they've made attacks or used powers that the monster should not have - I've been known to explain that...

    Sheriff of Nottingham

Yes! Several times. It's best with 4-5. It's a fun game that teaches you which of your friends can bluff, which can't, and what grudge matches are all about.

    Dresden Files RPG

If I don't fill my "Battle for the Bottle City of Ptolus" game (same time slot) and have to cancel, can I put in a request for that spot please?

Morrus stay out. Okay, fine, you can come in. Everyone else come in too.

Definitely would pitch in something. Got a PayPal address? (I might suggest setting up a specific account for this.)

Lax editing standards as long as updates are free?

Well put IronWolf. There's no easy answer. I am an editor for many volumes, and I can tell you that even with three pairs of eyes on a book, you will miss stuff. The issue is indeed whether it's a tiny distraction or a huge gaffe.

    Morrus gets married today!

Why am I always a couple days late? Ah well, many hearty congratulations to Morrus! I wish you all the best in your new life together!

GenCon and 'Never Split the Party' story in the LA Times

Nice. Old friend writes essay. Wins contest. Gets other old friends together. Someone else pays. :D

    Dreseden Files RPG is Awesome

I bet it would be fun though! Dresden (in the first three books) seems to be pretty much a solo guy, although he gets friends to help at all the right places. Okay, the third book turns into more of a traditional RPG adventuring group at the end. Seems to me that the way FATE plays that with the...

    Dreseden Files RPG is Awesome

Unless something is drastically different from FATE/SotC, an item would carry an Aspect. It might be treated as a Gadget with a number of advances. Now, that might sound like Greek. Items, in FATE, are not important as items. They are important if the character considers them important and...

    Frozen Empires?

I'm not a disinterested party since I participated a lot in the thread over there that got it off the ground. That said, I've always loved ice and snow and adventures in same. (Thank you, Fafhrd's origin story, Island at the Top of the World, Norse legend, and a whole host of other things.) I...

    Dreseden Files RPG is Awesome

In terms of spoilers, friends of mine who have read the books and own the RPG advised that it mainly contains spoilers for books 1-4. So I am on book 3 and about to get 4 so that I can sit and read my materials! Describe "wonky" please? Fate combat has simple and straightforward mechanics -...

    D20 To Die For

The alchemical-style art is neat, however it looks like it will roll even more than a d20 with sharp edges?

Why I Dislike the term Railroading

See, I think your discussion begins with an assumption that "railroading" begins on the train, i.e. in the game. "Railroading" to my mind is when the DM plans a storyline from beginning to end with no possible deviation by the players pursuing a logical (albeit sometimes loose) end that the DM...

    [Open Design] Frozen Empires!

I feel like it should be an ice cream treat on a gaming truck! ;)

    Whatever happened to Zeb Cook?

AFAIK, he most recently wrote the short and excellent adventure "Bottled Desire" for Six Arabian Nights. (I only know this because I edited that volume.)

If Great Figures in History were Gamers

Heh. HG Wells was a gamer! He wrote one of the first rules for miniature wargames.

Please help me find a new gaming system!

Yes. It's rather a brilliant concept actually. Magic storm seizes bits of Earth history. Plunks them down in a fantasy universe. Insert PCs. Add adventure. Amazing that they put out a complete sourcebook on it in 2005. I had no idea. Still operating off much older stuff.

    Stained Glass d20's

I saw the prototype at Gen Con last year. It's quite beautiful. They were also not exactly quoting a fixed price, but it was implied that the d20 would cost around $300 apiece. Probably a fair price for an artist to make such. I imagine that d4 lampshades (tres cool idea) would possibly cost...

Please help me find a new gaming system!

FATE Or it's children and kissing cousins, Spirit of the Century and Dresden Files. Here's what's good about FATE/SotC: *It allows for creativity in spades, within an agreed-upon framework and threshold level of reality. You are not limited however by the setting, rather it inspires! *Time...
