Congratulations to the 2015 ENnies Award Winners!

Congrats to all the winners. I also think another round of praise should be given to the nominees. To even be nominated is a great honor, I think, that can really bring visibility to products that we can all find out more about and love.

Why Should You Vote In The ENnies?

Morrus, Very well said. Not that I needed a reason to vote for the ENnies, but your post was beautiful and should be reposted every year at this time. :)

    Experience Point: Screw the rules

Rel, I cannot agree with you more. As someone who has been running games, one-shots and campaigns, for 25 years, I can say that this has been the natural evolution of my GMing style. I play games (and run them) with the desire to tell a story, build characters and engage in dialogue (with...

[Ennies] Soliciting Your Vote for Judge

Good question. First, it has to be submitted. Second, the criteria is only that it be 'free.' Beyond that, the best free item should be nominated. But I do not think that within the free category they should be further subdivided into 'rule set' or 'adventure' or whatever.

    Top Secret/SI

I don't have a ton to add, quite honestly. I just saw the name of the thread and was drawn in like a moth to flame. The amount of fun I had running this and the weird, off-the-wall antics that my players did in the late 80's early 90's . . . But since I'm here, I have to ask - why convert it...

Running a campaign in a large city

One of my favorite kinds of settings would be urban-based, city settings. A lot of what I would say has already been echoed but a city based setting allows for a great deal of intrigue, plot and mystery. Further, one of the great opportunities a group has is interaction with villains...

    AD&D Commemorative Core 3: I Haz 'Em!

I think I really would like to get my hands on a set of these - for no other reason than kitschy nostalgia . . .

    Shrink wrapped Dark Sun

Crothian, as usual, is correct. Make sure it is the original shrink wrap.

Suggest a System: I Want to Run A Zombie Game...

Fear Itself is a good choice. Another game I recently came across - even more rules light - would be Dead of the Night, by Steampower Publishing.

    Forked from: Delete Me

For better or for worse, I hear the word pronounced a lot and when I hear it, it is 'grog-nard.'

Mr Chick appears to be doing the Devil's work

There is something about Jack Chick which always sucks me in. That lovable lunatic will always have a place in my heart.

Albany Gameday XVI - Sept 3rd

I highly endorse Albany Game Day! If, for no other reason, then you get to meet me!

    Gaming at non-gaming cons

The only cons I really attend are gaming cons (Origins and GenCon) and a lot of comic shows in the midwest area. The comic shows rarely have any gaming other than maybe some Pokemon tournaments. I think the real problem with pushing gaming at, say, a comic show is the lack of participation...

The Player Psychology of Fleeing Villains

This is a delicate topic. Before I get into the 'fleeing' part, let me bring up a similar issue I have seen players grumble over: use of healing potions. Since we're tying in the idea of villains acting intelligently, why would they not use every item at their disposal to fight, win...

    "Oh god what is that!"

I was in a D&D group where a Beholder showed up when we were 3rd level and bullied us into accepting a mission. Ugh.

    New System Deal Breakers

Ya know what? I really hate that word, too, actually.

Things to establish before session one

There are a variety of things I will establish - rules we are using, rules we are not, etc. However, most of my players are pretty cool with that. But the OP seems to be suggesting that the group he is playing with is one that does not have a lot of collective experience. In that situation...
