    Nadaka's DiceBox is back

Good news. Nadaka's Dicebox is getting a facelift and a new location! It is still a work in progress but its quite functional. http://dicebox.org/Dice/Roll for rolling dice from simple to complex. http://dicebox.org/Dice/Roll/Classic for old fashioned XdY+Z. And this time I don't have pesky...

The Play By Post FAQ: Last Updated 11/16/03

Is the die roller at invisiblecastle.com down? I am getting 503's. If y'all need an alternative, I am moving the old Nadaka's DiceBox online die roller to a new location and upgraded hardware/software. Its still a work in progress, but its functional. http://dicebox.org/Dice/Roll/List for a list...

To Class or not to Class...

I prefer flexible classed systems that provide guidance without restriction, choice without overwhelming and balance without monotony. D20 modern is a nearly perfect example of this.

What are the most generic class names?

D20 Modern... Strong/Fast/Tough/Smart/Dedicated/Charismatic Hero. All base classes are extremely generic, but surprising descriptive.

    A Question About Foreign RPGs

Record of Lodoss War was based on the authors D&D campaign. So it has been in Japan for a very long time at the least.

    Need more military help

Using D20 modern as a basis for comparison. A year 1 recruit just out of boot camp is probably going to be level 2 or 3. An experienced professional with years of training/service is going to be about level 5-6. This is probably the best place to start your special forces at. Anything past...

    Die Roll Generator?

You can use the die roller I have made DiceBoxWS Roll Its database allows you to look up rolls so they can't cheat. And if you are familiar with consuming web services, you can also include the functionality directly in your own site. This is a relatively new version, but I have been hosting...

    Supernatural TV show RPG

I am a fan of d20 modern myself. It is greatly adaptable and fits most any setting with relatively minor tweaking.

    Designing the Perfect D&D

I think you are dramatically overestimating the chances of survival and ability to contribute of level disparate characters in 1e/2e. Put a level 1 in a level 10 party and see what happens. HD and Level based auto kill effects were far more common, as well as practically unavoidable area...

    Heavy Metal RPG anyone?

After reading your title, for a moment I was envisioning a group of characters with umlauts over every letter in their name, clad in black spiked leather, adventuring across the land wielding axe shaped guitars and the anti-bardic ability to incite rage, conflict and deafen their foes.

    Troublesome Player

You said he is a good roleplayer, and he likes you, and everyone sees him regularly? Talk to him and let him know that his behavior is excessive and inappropriate. Maybe he will change, or at least tone it down to tolerable levels. Or maybe he will decide to stop coming.

"Fixing" d20 Modern - The Definitive Thread

I very much prefer the basic classes. Not every modern game is about mercenaries, or super spies. So a class for every role would require a huge number of classes. Even then, a lot of modern characters do not fit roles. That was my biggest problem with spycraft, that every class was so strictly...

Must-have advancement options for a playtest?

Your first play test should be minimalist. A set of single class characters at min, mid and max level. Perhaps another group of characters with 2 classes each. The point of your first playtest should be to show that the core of your system isn't broken and that the rules can be understood by...

"Fixing" d20 Modern - The Definitive Thread

When implementing a W/VP system for d20 modern I didn't go with pure RCR. 1: firearm damage was only increased by 1 die step, instead of adding a 3rd die. 2: Armor provides both hardness and conversion to non lethal damage equal to its rating. 3: A character can spend action points to convert...

Gaming Music - The 99 Darkest Pieces Of Classical Music

Whoa. Hold up there, I don't follow music much but I like Cash and NIN, what NIN song did Cash do? On another note so to speak, definitely going to get this 99 songs.

"Fixing" d20 Modern - The Definitive Thread

I used to do a lot of extensive houserules for d20 modern. But it was so hard to find a group to play regular modern, or even D&D that I stopped more or less a couple years ago. Of course I also stopped gaming as well. I always wanted to add elements from the 3.5e Tome of Battle: Book of 9...

Why is being "in print" important?

1: in print games have easier to find resources. 2: only in print games have new officially supported publications. 3: In print games have more people playing. In short, it makes it easier for you to get new things for the game, including players.

Would you prefer it if your partner said you were a great GM, or great in bed?

As my ex said when I told her that I played roleplaying games: "Ooo! I'll be a naughty chearleader and you can be the pervy older teacher". I said: "sounds like fun, but I was thinking of the other kind of roleplaying."

Would you prefer it if your partner said you were a great GM, or great in bed?

Either way, I like it when she says "yes master".
