WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

People say all you need to do is reword things because it is TRUE with game rules according to every court precedent regarding copyright and game rules. Original material about a setting or a novel etc., not so much.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

Yeah, too late. already moved on to PF2E.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Although Pathfinder 2E is released under OGL 1.0a, they basically removed nearly everything they had originally pulled from SRD 3.5, so it's really a task of going through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure no more WotCisms remain, editing anything that may need to be edited, and releasing...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

I imagine a slightly revised Pathfinder 2 and Kobold's Black Flag will both have SRDs released under ORC.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

I think that included additional production, not on hand inventory, which is why they still told people ordering of other venues to purchase the items. I am still waiting on my order.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

So this restores a bit of faith in WotC. I can go see the movie and resubscribe to Paramount+ now. I can resume my purchases of OOP TSR products on DriveThruRPG. I think I'll still be moving to PF2E though.

Linda can make their product they mentioned. Those are their pronouns, just an FYI.

OGL v1.2 Survey Feedback: 'Hasn't Hit The Mark'

Put me into the stance he took group, I agree completely with that red line. There cen be no compromise on OGL 1.0a as the consequences of not holding fast are far larger than TTRPGs and could affect trillions of dollars worth of global commerce.

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

I know at least ten attorneys who disagree with your assessment completely. That does not even take into account the attorneys who wrote OGL 1.0a and the team that put everything together at WotC.

D&D Movie/TV Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves could change D&D forever

I had considered that and it does fit the overall undead theme, but thought I would stick to strictly vampires. The Dark Shadows writers likely compiled the two classic horror movies into a single workable trope line.

D&D Movie/TV Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves could change D&D forever

I think the trope goes back to the Dark Shadows television series where Victoria Winters was believed to be the reincarnation of Josette by Barnabas Collins. At least, that's the earliest expression of a vampire finding the reincarnation of a dead love that I can recall seeing.

Foundry VTT Responds to OGL 1.2 Draft

I think Paizo would stand a better chance in front of a jury than a judge in this case. Easier to get the point of "perpetual" across to a jury and the fact that it has stood for 20+ years to a jury than a judge. WotC, of course, would want no jury.

D&D Movie/TV Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves could change D&D forever

Not to mention there are so many more original concepts that could be turned into movies, I see no future for Ravenloft on the Silver Screen

Foundry VTT Responds to OGL 1.2 Draft

Could you depend on it even actually being implemented in the first place? After all, it is stated in a statement that is not legally binding and WotC have already proved they are more than willing to renege on anything they have ever said like that the OGL would always be there if they do a new...

D&D Movie/TV Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves could change D&D forever

Take it for what you will, but Strahd would be an awful choice for a movie. Besides being a direct ripoff of Dracula, the number of tropes would just never be accepted by modern audiences.

Foundry VTT Responds to OGL 1.2 Draft

I think they may be going after things like "magic missiles" and "owlbear". The reasoning is competitor VTTs can do wht they want with games other than D&D and Pathfinder already has a good relationship with Foundry.

Foundry VTT Responds to OGL 1.2 Draft

SRD 3.5 was the basis for Pathfinder, and there may be little money in it, but taking out a competitor would give them enough motivation to do it. Keeping any words, spell names, monster names, etc. in Pathfinder 2E will likely result in a C&D at a minimum. I think they are going to flex at...

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

Okay, that's cool I have no problem with a new OGL 1.2 for new SRD other than the fact that I believe anybody would be fool to gamble their business on such a license, especially with the garbage they already posted, but if that's where WotC wants to go and somebody is willing to sign onto...

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

That's fine for anything new. OGL1.0a is perpetual and thus irrevocable. There is no means under OGL 1.0a to revoke or "deauthorize" it. That power is not granted to WotC under the license. SRD 5.1 was released under OGL 1.0a and can be used to develop anything new perpetually. If they were to...

    D&D Movie/TV There's A New Trailer For D&D: Honor Among Thieves

I wish I had a dollar for every TPK that happened when I ran OD&D at the age of 13 & 14.
