Worlds of Design: The Benefit of Experience

I go with XP for treasure taken from the adventure location not just any money earned by a character. It encourages exploration and discourages pointless combat. The treasure can be anything that has some gp value - works of art, magic items, spellbooks, lost relics, sensitive information, etc -...

Which WFRP one-shot can you recommend?

A Rough Night at the Three Feathers is probably the best WFRP one-shot adventure.

D&D 5E Running Maze of the Blue Medusa for 5e

Let me start by saying that MotBM required very little prep time. I'd read through each section once, then it was 15-30 min prep time, tops per session. Many times less. So the key to the maze is that a certain painting has to be placed on a north wall, in moonlight, on the night it was stolen...

D&D 5E Running Maze of the Blue Medusa for 5e

I've been running Maze of the Blue Medusa using 5e off and on for the last few months. The group has consisted of: - Kenku Raven Queen Tomelock - Tiefling Kensai - Half-Orc Samurai - Half-Elf Whisper Bard - Yuan-ti Pureblood Immortal Mystic They are rarely all present at once and much of the...

Monster Slayers from Xanathar's Guide is Van Helsing

It's less about the specific mechanics and how close they track to what Geralt can do than it is the feel of the subclass.

Monster Slayers from Xanathar's Guide is Van Helsing

I'm playing a Monster Slayer ranger currently. Very fun and pairs perfectly with the Revised Ranger. I wanted a character that evoked Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher books/games and this subclass delivers.

D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Monster Slayer Subclass

I really like this subclass. Playing one now and it's got a very Witcher vibe to it.

D&D 5E Just how long is the D&D Pike supposed to be?

It was an effective weapon when there were hundreds of pikes pointing in one direction, supported by ranged weapon fire and cavalry waiting in the wings. For individual PCs, it's probably not the best weapon to use. I'd treat it as a really long spear, not the 18'-25' weapon of war.

    D&D 5E Building a better Wizard

I think more subclass abilities that make spells of that specialization better. Similar to how illusions cast by an Illusionist are more flexible or can fool more senses. Ideally there'd be an ability that boosts the effectiveness of cantrips of that school as well. Allow a wizard to maintain...

    D&D 5E [ToA] Chult-appropriate reincarnation table

Pulling from the FR wiki: Ptera-men (flying, shapeshifting dino-men, probably just reskinned Aaracokkra) Humans Goblins Bullywugs Crabmen

    D&D 5E [ToA] Chult-appropriate reincarnation table

Off the top of my head: Yuan-Ti Pureblood Lizardfolk Tabaxi Feral Dwarf - I seem to recall there being a lost tribe of dwarves who'd reverted to primitive tribalism

    D&D 5E [ToA] Heat & Heavy (armor)

I can't imagine any of the armors being pleasant to wear while walking in a jungle, much less fight while wearing them. I'd be tempted to say that wearing any armor provokes a Con save per hour or gain a level of exhaustion. Medium and Heavy armors could have shorter intervals per save and...

    Retroclone for AD&D 2e

I know about most of the OD&D and B/X retroclones (and own most of them), but is there a retroclone for 2e? I'm not talking OSRIC, but something for pre-Skills and Powers 2nd edition.

    D&D 5E Phantom Steed.

Phantom Steed is really more a long-distance travel spell than a combat mount spell. Find Steed, the paladin spell, will give you a decent combat mount though.

D&D 5E Recommend a D&D resource not everybody knows about

Not strictly D&D, but I get a lot of mileage out Atlas Obscura. Most weeks there's an article that will spark an adventure idea, dungeon theme, or fantastic location. Consider the D&D possibilities in these articles: http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/zodiac-man-astrology-ketham...

D&D 5E Campaign defining magic item

I let the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords and Blackrazor into my OotA campaign. Both weapons, but Blackrazor in particular, came to have a major role in the course of the game. Possession of the Axe allowed the duergar Oathbreaker to seize control of Gracklestugh in a coup. A drow Immortal wielded...

    D&D 5E Building a dungeon that Meta-games

I really like the idea of a living dungeon or at least a malevolent intelligence inhabiting a place. I think it's a variation on stocking your dungeon with inhabitants that try to actively thwart the PCs. Some questions that come to mind: - how quickly can the dungeon make changes? - what...
