My dwarf wizard had a 20 Con and a toad familiar. When my wizard got knocked to dieing the toad held off a Dire Rat until the party got there to kill the rat and save him. Familiars are great! Doesn't a 1d2-2 damage still do at least 1 point of damage with a successful attack?
