Parts are really good, parts a little blah blah.
Confirms that Perkins and he are working on both D&D and Daggerheart. They are previewing/testing the D&D work through the new season of Critical Role. For Daggerheart doing a new diabolical world (how literally devilish was not clear) and an...
So back to the video. Which is very good.
2014 is in fact a big hit, doubling what had become a fairly diverse source of revenue with rpg sales--which was just those three books and the starter set.
First big development is that there is no drop off, as previously been the case for new...
"No". Ok. Do you have a quote for this? On the rationale for the switch. Or its just the authoritative "no".
I was able to confirm in about 2 minutes that in fact there are discounted games on Amazon and full price books.
This reminded me that there have been parts of the world were it has been extremely hard to get the 2024 core books (where you could get 2014 books and other gaming stuff). The books are also barely discounted on Amazon. Both imply they are scarce and hence have sold well.
Edit: just had like...
Lifetime? No. 1e was the peak and each edition was less (maybe 4e did better then 3.5 but that is it) until the great 5eing. There has been several confirmations of this.
Now comparing the first year of one to the first year of another is a different story. I am sure 2024 sales have great. Will...
Since D&D and specifically 4e has come up, it’s designers have specifically said it’s not simulationist. That was very much part of the design intent, not to try to simulate anything.
I can put in a reference later, if needed.
Ok let’s try to figure this out: the point may be that 5e damage and hp inflation are natural outcomes of core assumptions and constraints. Yes, this true.
Bounded accuracy forces most differentiation onto hp and damage. The desire to avoid 1.5 a round/ittarative attack progression and the...
Well at least someone finally admitted it, including the 20 rounds a day.
I have long standing limits on resting, though from 4e (it actually wasn't perfect in this regard). And those limits are now common in 3rd party products.
But at least they are finally out with it.
Overall they have been given a needed boost. There is also a scattering of cool new abilities.
But I tend to like the spellcasters in 2014 better. 2024 just cuts back the spells too much.
I have recently been reunited with my Dragon and Polyhedron collection. But I was never separated from the CD ROM collection or the first Bests of Dragon.
Best of Dragon I have material from the Strategic Review and it and Best of Dragon II are a great way to get a feel for early D&D.
