    Recommended 1E house rule compliations?

It's not that simple. The rule (p. 82) works as follows. If you reach exactly 0 hit points, you're only unconscious, and dying. (You lose 1 hit point per round after that until you reach −10 hit points and really die, or until someone spends a round tending to you, in which case you stop losing...

What "IS" the Dungeons & Dragons Brand?

Try GURPS Dungeon Fantasy. It's a lot of templates and procedures to make GURPS easy to use with the dungeon adventuring experience.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Then do four quartlings make a gallonling? Are quartling children pint-sized?

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Don't be silly! The offspring of a human and a halfling would obviously be a three-quarterling.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

While I can imagine those human-looking half-orcs keeping a low profile, half-ogres obviously can't do that. Where they don't blend it, they probably use intimidation instead. "I don' care if I ain't got no tie. Yer gonna let me eat here, or I'm gonna pound yer head in."

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Gary, When you are preparing a town for your own refereeing (as opposed to preparing one for publication), how do you organize your notes? I've seen a number of techniques, including detailing individual buildings, detailing sections or neighborhoods of the town as if they were dungeon rooms...

KotB... The Caves of the Unknown

If someone does something with the Cave of the Unknown in the forest, but no one is there to Know it, is it cool?

KotB... The Caves of the Unknown

No. No one has ever done anything cool with the Cave of the Unknown. ;)

Holy Crap! I just played in the worst D&D game...

I once played in a campaign where the setting was a relabeled and slightly reworked map of Europe flipped horizontally. It was called "Greyhawk."

    2E vs 3E: 8 Years Later. A new perspective?

It's not a parody at all. It's a close translation of the current D&D rules into proper GURPS templates.

    Thinking About OD&D

People constantly say this, but for the record, I have never, ever seen original D&D books at a used bookstore.

    2E vs 3E: 8 Years Later. A new perspective?

Are you thinking of the original or revised rules? The revised edition filled out the page count a lot! :) Don't forget: a great deal of the text of AD&D Second Edition is explanatory fluff. Another significant part is optional rules (the entire chapter on proficiencies, by the way). If AD&D...

    2E vs 3E: 8 Years Later. A new perspective?

I think you've missed the point of the non-weapon proficiencies. They were never meant to be "very useful." They were supposed to supplement an adventurer's primary skills. Unfortunately, most people made the same assumption you have, and their importance was blown completely out of proportion...

    2E vs 3E: 8 Years Later. A new perspective?

This is another thing that AD&D Second Edition broke. In the first edition, odds are your elven fighter/magic-user would be limited to level 5/9. In the second edition, an elven fighter/mage could get to 12/15 — not much of a restriction. So originally, an elven fighter/magic-user could more or...
