WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

This doesn’t seem to be an open licence of the same sort as the OGL and open software licences. From what I can tell it isn’t written as a template for users of WotC open content to use to also license their own content and doesn’t have a viral effect on the openness of other parties’ content.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Implying that the OneDnD changes will be made to SRD 5.1 rather than a separate SRD 5.5 release, and saying that publishing content based on SRD 5.1 means you agree to the OGL 1.1 is … clever? Underhand? I suppose an interesting question would be whether a publication which claims to be based...

    Old RPGA Numbers?

RPGA numbers were merged into DCI numbers at some point perhaps a decade ago. Since then there’s been another database move but unless that broke things, I seem to recall that you can turn an RPGA number into a DCI number by making it a 9-digit number with the first digit ‘1’ and as many 0s as...

Critical Role Wildemount: Most Pre-orders Since D&D Core Rulebooks

I’m not surprised. I expect there’ll be a significant group for whom this is the first D&D book they buy, and many others who will own this and the PHB. I think it’d probably beat a hypothetical Forgotten Realms Campaign guide, even though that would also attract people who aren’t regularly...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2020

Besides the already-nominated Wolves of God and Swords of the Serpentine, I played a great playtest of Dramaghul: City on the Edge of Nowhere, a Wordplay 2 game from Wordplay Games. I have no idea if it's scheduled for a 2020 release, but I'm looking forward to it whenever it emerges!

D&D General 40 Million People Have Played D&D [UPDATED!]

I like the release of actual sales figures for the Starter Set. 126,000 in North America in 2014 (from the July release); 306,000 in North America in 2018. I wonder what we can extrapolate from that!

The urban fantasy market seems awfully stagnant

For a unashamedly British take on urban fantasy, perhaps look at Liminal (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/267203/Liminal, with a quick-start here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/258103/Liminal-Quickstart). It has some setting assumptions built loosely into the character concepts, but...

The New Dungeons & Dragons Storyline for 2019 Leaked Ahead of Live Stream

Yeah, I'm a little annoyed that I'll probably have to wait a bit, but it'll be in general distribution worldwide - the D&D Beyond article says it'll be released to all channels on 3rd September so it's only a two month delay.

Bethesda Pulls Promotional Elder Scrolls D&D Module Following Plagiarism Accusations

Indeed. It might be lawful (but ridiculously rude) to release that adjustment/adaptation of the adventure on DM’s Guild. Even that might breach DM’s Guild terms relating to attribution of other DM’s Guild sources. But the Elder Scrolls adventure at the very least has elements which are copied...

New D&D Adventure Reveal On 17th May at 'The Descent'

WotC has announced the reveal of the next D&D adventure hardcover, which will be unveiled at 'The Descent' in LA on Friday 17th May at 4pm PDT (midnight BST). D&D Live 2019: The Descent will be a celebration of the Dungeons & Dragons community as they gather to learn about the latest...

Why Didn't Harry Potter Change the Game?

The premium residential LARP experiences of College of Wizardry in Poland and New World Magischola in the US show how this can work. From the accounts I’ve read they’re well-designed and make use of the expectations and techniques of (character interaction, not boffer) LARP to create something...

Are We Looking At A New RPG Kickstarter Record?

It seems to me there is no perfect way to do shipping for Kickstarters. As Fred Hicks and Evil Hat have noted, including shipping costs in the KS pledge artificially inflates the total raised (and, as the costs are variable, doesn’t do so predictably). It also puts the risk of postage cost...

    D&D 5E Announcement coming February 6th

There’s a D&D Twitch channel at https://twitch.tv/dnd for the video recordings of the podcasts and the podcasts themselves are posted as articles somewhere on the D&D website because a Twitter D&D article aggregator I follow tweets links to them, if you don’t want to use the links to the audio...

Season 8 will switch to the Organized Play rules presented in XGTE

On the benefits relative to XP and milestones, for organised play: since at least some AL groups have significantly fluctuating groups from session to session, milestones cause problems unless they are very small. If AL were to use the milestone suggestions in some Hardcovers, players who missed...

Could D&D Ever Have an eSport?

NASCRAG (at least the time I played it) appeared to be competitive D&D for people who are terrible at traditionally competitive D&D! (That’s a compliment!) It felt pretty subjective - for the better - and couldn’t easily do an objective team vs team large scale “televised” format. Now British...

DDAL How do I start doing DDAL?

There's a Europe-focused AL Facebook group which might help you find people close by who can help you get started: https://m.facebook.com/groups/682411271850059 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Do you have an FLGS?

I'm blessed to live in the same city as the excellent Patriot Games in Sheffield. Open to 10:30 most nights, plenty of gaming space (which is often full), keen and knowledgeable staff... And if I wanted alternatives, there are at least two in Leeds and one in Huddersfield. Plus two independent...

Modiphius' Star Trek Adventures playtest sign up date announced...

Just as it seems to be causing some confusion - the initial playtest release is a "learn the rules" starter nominally set in the TNG era with slightly simpler characters than standard. Future releases will include the different ships and adventures based on the sign-up preferences. Sent from...
