The problem with magic in D&D

    You, sir, win the Internet.

FR: Church of Sûne - Headquarter

Like you said, being a Chaotic organization it'll be loosely organized and may not have a single HQ. If there isn't one written up anywhere you can, of course, write one up yourself.

    UK, Nottingham

UK Gamers ENWorld is populated largely by Americans... You'll have better luck looking on message boards such as that on www.orcnest.com ... This is where i found the London Gamers Yahoo mailing list, which has proved immensly useful (will post direct link if i can find it again)

Where you at? Add yourself to the EN World map

Brilliant, this... Come on, where are all the London gamers hiding?
  5. TheVoiceOfReason

Can you play the game wrong/incorrectly?

I've voted 'Yes' for the same reason many others have; if the game is not being enjoyed by those involved, then its entire purpose is being defeated.

    Stormclad?

I think 'Stormclad' is the name of a steamjack in Warmachine (a mini's war-game)... I wouldn't worry about copyright enfringment.

Anyone in London using HERO system?

Excellent! I'll be back on this thread once i've got something a bit more concrete together...

Anyone in London using HERO system?

Ah, forgot; as for where; somewhere in Greater London is most likely, i may run a HERO 'workshop' in Cambridge at some point, however...

Anyone in London using HERO system?

More than welcome, of course. When is still a bit of a mystery, we'll have to work that out when there are a couple more interested parties... I've got reasonable knowledge of hte system, but little in-game XP with it... Eh, we'll muddle thru.

Anyone in London using HERO system?

A couple of the lads and myself are looking to start/join a HERO system game in the near future, anybody else out there using ti or interested in doing so?

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

I probably had goofed a bit with some spells; i'm not so clear on some of it, especially the more obscure books... Need to make time for a bit of homework and possably a spell audit...

    Pre-campaign survey?

Questions I might ask (a pre-game survey isn't a bad idea BTW): - magical power level (high-magic setting, low magic, etc). - overall genre (high fantasy, low fantasy, horror, classic, etc). - party theme (are they on a holy quest, are they mercs in it for the money, good, evil, lawful...

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

Right, gotcha... need to make it work for me (or I work with it, if you prefer) as opposed ot thinking of it as an obstacle... What I may have done is assume that high level play is just like low level play but with more HD and a better special-effects budget; now I've got a handle on how to...

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

To Piratecat: Exactly! this is what i've been gunning for, and it seems to work (or so i've convinced myself)... I still find high level magic to be a bit of a beast at times, however (although this is more a matter of personal taste than anything else)

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

its not just making you walk there, its what happens along the way (or at least thats the idea)... To use a tired old example; the Lord of the Rings would only have been three pages long and a bit naff besides if Gandalf just grabbed Frodo and the ring, then teleported and flew over Mt Doom...

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

True, some more 'mundane' methods of countering magic would be handy... And i agree that the PCs shouldn't be nerfed with any frequency... Anyway, thanks all for the feedback, its been handy! I'll find something for it eventually, i just need to work out how to use high level magic without...

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

I agree, and thats what i'm having a tad of trouble with, Jester; creating adventures, etc that use and even require their impressive spell-list but aren't too strange (perhapse its simply a matter of individual taste and preference)...

High Level Magic (a bit of a mouthful)

Greetings All! I've been DMing on-and-off since the release of DnD 3.X (just a player prior that, but not for long) and I'm wondering if i could get a few opinions and/or suggestion from some fellow gamers... I've just recently started DMing a high level game (took over the DMship at level 13)...
