Essence20 only has 4 Ability scores and I believe only does 1 point of damage per hit. Its not as directly compatible and I'd hope but it sounds cool.

For me the problem is that Chaosium is a bit too litigious about BRP I think Arc Dream's solution to use the Legend OGL is the best of both worlds.

Is it that resource-intensive to allow sub-classes in? I like DnD Beyond but their development timeline concerns me. I really wish WotC would choose partners who deliver a product at launch instead of waiting like 2 years for a dice roller and your character in an app.

About 10 years ago our session went to 2-3 hours and I've never looked back. It works far better than 8-10 hour sessions of my youth in every way.

Yeah and it helps manage the IP since it looks like D&D will be pretty darn heavy into other types of entertainment.

WotC reports that they have year after year growth in D&D (& Magic) and I think in 2020 it was 65%. Critical Role & 5E have made RPGs more relatable.

I appreciate the information and I hadn't considered it. I'm sure it happens far more often than I thought then which is sad.

The expectation is that the publisher wouldn't pull such a wrong-headed move and the site you purchased it from wouldn't allow the publisher to do that to its paying customers. It's fine if the publisher decides to shut down pdfs but people who paid them shouldn't get screwed over.

At least it's some old hands cashing in as opposed to another WotC money grab. ;)
