    Treantmonk's Guide to character building

So for the cleric build I noticed you want to do daily heroes feasts... that’s a thousand gold per casting, even In 5e that’s going to be prohibitively expensive

    D&D 5E Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Haven’t seen a thread for the cleric guide yet, but wanted to note that for your heroes feat spell you can’t do it every day without having a lot of disposable income due to it costing 1,000 gp per casting as it’s consumed.

Thoughts on Eldritch Knight Polearm Build

Somewhat yes, but the two biggest draws of Polearms are 1) Reach and Sentinel/Polearm Master reaction attacks and/or (if using a quarterstaff) 2) The extra Bonus Action attack, either for similar damage as the quarterstaff, or another attempt to add lots of secondary damage from sources like...

DM advice: How do you NOT kill your party?

So in other words, metagame to curb metagaming. Brilliant

I know magic items are unnecessary but

Call me old school if you like but I let the dice fall where they may when it comes to stuff like this. Yes, even for my NPCs, I almost always let it be generated by the dice results. Why? Because even most NPC's get their magic items the way PC's do- theft, murder, bribery! Unless an NPC has...

What's so good about the "blade" cantrips?

Not really. Most DMs can plan around that in game if needed, especially if you're at the level where you're able to do that and the NPC would know to plan accordingly (if said NPC had the ability to do so)... Even though you can do it 1-4 times a day, you're still not doing as much damage as a...

What's so good about the "blade" cantrips?

By swarms I mean groups of enemies vs. a single target. Yeah... 75 damage crits are great against single targets. Not so much when you're facing 10-20 opponents at once. Or if you have say, the standard number of encounters in an adventuring day.

What's so good about the "blade" cantrips?

Well sure if the majority of your adventuring days consist of fighting single or a couple large beasties. Against swarms... not so much.

What's so good about the "blade" cantrips?

Unfortunately true, and a matter of different discussion. I try not to do so when running a game, unless the NPC would logically know what was about to occur (Has seen it before, has used it before, has had it used on them before etc.)

What's so good about the "blade" cantrips?

They can also be useful for classes which might be able to get bonus damage based on elemental affinities. Draconic Sorcerer, Celestial Warlock, and so on. Except that the enemy can choose to stop at any time, including after being hit by the OA, and thus not take the damage. This could...

[UPDATED] Most D&D Players Prefer Humans - Without Feats!

Inhouse data from what? And if it's across several editions, why would it even matter for 5th? After all, 2 editions required feats, 2 editions existed before feats were created!

[UPDATED] Most D&D Players Prefer Humans - Without Feats!

No he isn't. The data he's using is the primary source. Data which could easily be skewed. Some examples- Using only DNDBeyond, which can have mainly SRD/free resources (i.e. no feats). Also, the majority of the characters in the data pool may be from 1-3, in which case only Variant Humans can...

D&D 5E "My Character Is Always..." and related topics.

You sure about that...? That right there is denying a bonus to characters with good stats in investigation and/or perception. And right here you come right out and say that you expect the players, not the characters, to come up with good plans, regardless of their character abilities...

D&D 5E "My Character Is Always..." and related topics.

So... if your players make characters with good stats, you don't give them bonuses, but you expect them to play the handicaps of bad stats? That's pretty uneven.

D&D 5E Material Components: How Hard to Find in Your Games?

Because the relevant claim was the part I quoted? Except for the fact if you don't have access to your spell focus or component pouch you have to start keeping track... Be sure to tell your DM that if you ever get captured and all your stuff confiscated and you then need to escape. Oh, so...

D&D 5E What does "murderhobo" mean to you?

I voted "other". Murderhobo means the same thing to me as "REAL Roleplayer", "Power Game", and "Munchkin" all mean. Absolutely nothing. They're subjective terms colored by each users individual perspective, and trying to rigidly define them or use them as some sort of argument for or against...
