Doing away with "Bigger Fish" problem.

D&D has always suffered from a weird issue that is a byproduct of level scaling. We'll call it "Bigger Fish" as reference from the Darth & Droids Summon Bigger Fish joke, which is a great illustration of the problem. The issue in a nutshell is: Foes don't scale with level, and neither do...

When/If should Prestige Classes be introduced?

After picking up the APG when it came out I loved the archtypes for their ease at simulating specalites in each of the class with out requireing vastly different base attack math, or much in the way of diminishing returns. The few additional Prestige Classes seem to fit the same roles the core...

An idea for a "third" book in the Campaign Setting sets.

Originally posted on RPG.net [4E] A idea for a 'third' book for setting. - RPGnet Forums But I thought I'd throw it here to see if anyone else liked this idea. The idea in a nut shell is to add a 3rd book in the setting material for each of the published Campaign settings. This book would be...

    Ritual Economy

I've cross posted this at rpg.net but I was curious what the Enworld folks thought about the subject. Thanks. I've been thinking about what I call 'fluff' magic from earlier editions of D&D. The lion share of which have been handed over to ritual casting. One of the biggest issues I have with...

Do Leaders act as Force Multipliers?

In your game experiences have you noticed the Leaders acting as a linear addition to the groups power. (ie. Another warm body dishing out damage) or do they have the effect of a full Force Multiplier. Basically taking a group and giving them far more output than they ever had before? Has using...

    A few rules/logic questions.

Mostly fiddly bits. * Where was it expressly stated that an unconcious foe/ally gets saves when forced movement pushes them over an object. I know this has been errated but I'd like a source. What's the logic besides preventing this potential instakill exploit in the way the game mechanics...

The Staff and the Tank Mage.

I'm tinkering with the concept of a tank mage. Int primary, and just enough Str and Con to get up to say Chain. If I take the Staff as my implement focus to get that back up to around Scale armor level. Is there any tinkering I have to do to make this work? Are there decent spells that would...

    Explaine Viper Strike.

Consider this more of a call for clarification. Viper Strike allows for an AoO if the foe hit with it shifts. And this AoO is with a party ally. So, can a person with a ranged attack handy qualify? Or only someone adjacent in the classical sense?

    Keep on the Shadowfell gameplay.

Well, I GMed my first run into Keep on the Shadowfell. As a GM it felt like the typical D&D adventure. Kinda bland and way to dependent on set pieces, but I can deal. Though, some fun things did come out of the game. To add some options I added the D&D Experience characters with a few tweeks...

    Where did the Talents go?

As I dig up my memories of 4E from earlier previews I remember mention of Talents. Did the Talent picks of old get gobbled up in the Power selections of the now? Or am I missing something?

    D&D 4E I like 4E math.

Default BAB only modified by the choices of class, weapon, and attack specialties. Target number saves. It solves so many issues I had with d20. It's why Mutants and Masterminds drives me crazy. Why am I spending points on BAB or Saves? Just give me a baseline 10 and let me pick powers. I...

Bard thoughts...Arcane/Leader and How it might work.

Okay, I get the roles: Striker, Defender, Leader, and Controller. I get the power sources: Arcane, Divine, and Martial. And I'm starting to see how that plays into party dynamics. But where does this leave the Bard. As of yet, we don't know if the Bard is going to make it into the core book...
