N.E.W. The Science Fiction Role-Playing Game

5 out of 5 rating for N.E.W. The Science Fiction Role-Playing Game TLDR: Really awesome game! We've played several tester sessions with my group and are now graduating onto a full campaign. It's a lot of fun and gives a proper toolbox for Sci-Fi play. We've played some decent 'firefly' style...

    Our Island Skies

Nice to see this little beastie written up! Went really well for a one off playest... going to put all that down to what you guys did with the pregens - genius! That really did throw me a proper curveball when Morag decided to launch herself at that goon. Guess that's what I meant when I wrote...

    Non-combat encounter playstyle preferences

This! :) I'm quite happy for the skill checks to get harder, but it needs to have a good reason why... the challenges need to be suitable for the DCs. The above example is ideal, each wall has a set DC, but higher level PCs don't climb easy walls any more. Speaking as a player: I'm happy as...

    "Roll For It"

I resemble this remark. :p The non intervention rule is important! Although the odd suggestion might have slid in from time to time. Hand of Evil - that's a construction of real beauty. It also made my head hurt a bit. :)

When status effects annoy the players

Here's my 2 cents on a really slow day at work! :) Some statuses are really annoying, some combined statuses are as bad. A limited and by no means inclusive list is: Dominated Stunned Dazed, pushed and prone. Dazed and Pushed/Slid down a deep pit. Pushed down a really big pit. Etc And it...

    Best Systems For One-on-one Play?

I would second both those things... Also have a pet theory that you could run an awesome cyberpunk setting game with 1-3 players - get some really interesting plotting going. Lots of good systems for that sort of thing out there. With just 1, figure recreating robocop could be fun.

    4e game London UK

I could well be interested in that game! I'm Alastair and I'm 31. Just moved up near Woking in north Surrey and pining for my old midweek game. A beer with a game is no bad thing (if I don't have to drive). Have been playing a fair bit of 4e lately and rather enjoying it. Finished a warhammer...

    Shadowrun Resources

Dumpshock works for me too. Best location idea I've run across is to scoop up some local area maps/tourist guides/etc while on holiday. Just helps if it's a location unfamiliar to your PCs. Got a friend here in the UK who uses Phoenix for just such a purpose and it works excellently. Props are...

The Age of Worms - Morrus' Campaign - Finished 6th August!!

Think Fez is happy with his possible future there! Just the small matters of Dragotha and Kyuss to deal with, I'm guessing - nothing to worry about there? :)

The Age of Worms - Morrus' Campaign - Finished 6th August!!

TBH, if it starts to get too silly, then we could look at nerfing it down a bit? Doubling is quite messy. Although doubling + power attack is only going to work on stuff with a cruddy AC...

    Deadlands questions

I agree with Donovan - I'm a huge D20 fan and a big deadlands fan - but the two things did not combine well IMO. Have got the Savage Worlds version but not actually run it. It does look like fun, but I'd probably run the classic version if I wanted to play - as I am very familiar with it. For...

The Age of Worms - Morrus' Campaign - Finished 6th August!!

AC 20 innards and a lack of protective magic internally didn't do it much good... Barbarian indigestion ftw! Although it could have been quite ugly - stomach was full of skeletal dragons - which just isn't friendly. Nice writeup there Mr Eccles!

    Sage Advice - multiclassing

I'd have thought they'd have to be pretty close to a final draft by now? The release date isn't a million miles off? It makes me wonder if multiclassing is something intended for 'PHB2: The revenge of Gnomes, Bardbarians and Druids'?

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

One I find interesting is the evolution of the rogue. From my recollection (and the post earlier in the thread) the ADnD rogue was the guy who dealt with traps and scouted for the party. From what I recall, backstab did some nice damage, but didn't really tend to come up very often unless the...

    Half-dragon hydra

To me that things scariness is going to be fairly dependant on the party composition. Lots of ranged guys and it'll be a lot easier? Also whether they know it's coming and can have the right magic prepared - presuming they know the right spells. Figure flyby attack is limited to one bite per...

So I've hit the damage roadblock on an Archer

Like others have said, arrows made from fancy materials is a must. And not even expensive? Potionwise from the DMG: Oil of Bless weapon (100g) works to bypass /good DR and auto confirms crits on evil targets. If you put this on the bow it should affect all arrows fired from it. Enlarge...

    D&D 4E Former 4E doubter , I have high hopes now

I like the OPs take on the situation. I've flip flopped a little myself, though generally felt positive. Currently finding myself - Undecided but very interested. Lots of little bits and pieces may look good or bad... but I've come to the conclusion I need to see how they fit together before...

How do you handle starting equipment for a non-1st level character?

I generally go with wealth by level stuff. My only regular limit is on the powers of one shot items. Nothing too far above the current party level. And it's all subject to an eyeballing before in play. On dead PCs, I came to a metagame agreement with the players: They don't keep their dead...

The Age of Worms - Morrus' Campaign - Finished 6th August!!

Ah - that was a fun session! The only big downer for me was the giants dieing when the phalyctery was smashed... I liked them and they'd made fun NPCs. Still, we've got their hordes of items to remember them by - which is something at least. ;) In case anyone is wondering, the first...

The Age of Worms - Morrus' Campaign - Finished 6th August!!

Thanks for the writeup Nik - came out well as usual! And there we were hoping for a nice mystic vision and drinking some knowledge. Not anticipating a crazy fight to the death against legions of horrors. Some mechanical bits: That boneyard is another to add to the long list of overly...
