D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

(Removed distraction) I don't like how that argument blames the person for everything. The feeling that the scene is wrong and suboptimal is "true" enough. If we can't criticize the script or scene as 'dissociated' and we're imagining how the story could/should have played out relative to the...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I've been squinting at this analogy for several minutes trying to determine exactly why it feels off. Now I know. A shirt may or may not make people feel warm (and it's not one of the first things you throw off to feel cooler). However, neckscarf, hat and gloves does objectively imply priority...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Hmm, dropping in on this brief note, because it interests me intellectually like a social experiment why Enworlders do what they do, what is the motivation to "clarify" someone else's experience? Generally speaking, for anyone who feels this is applicable to them, what is the motivation to...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

For what it was worth to do so, thanks for sticking your neck out like that. I at least appreciate it!

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I didn't realize the OP was about the rant. I didn't realize the author was so awful that it was some sort of D&D version of Mein Kampf. I was trying very hard to drag this obstinate conversation back to something meaningful related to the OP, but no, it seems the Mein Kampf has claimed this...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I get that. Well, then, the interesting question for me is: These mechanics impede my immersion and so it feels like a tactical skirmish No, not in my game Are those mutually exclusive statements? I don't think so, but this thread hardly managed to get around to discussing that, being so caught...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I'm going to gloss over this statement, not because I agree or disagree, but because I honestly don't know. Maybe you did get the point, I don't know? Ya, but I still believe this thread's bottleneck in communciation is more attitude. For example: That's an ugly shirt No, you find that shirt...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Here's the thing. I think this thread now has several people self-congratulating each other, lots of smug "I wish you could XP you", that kind of thing. This isn't a proper debate; I think it's a popularity contest over who can argue the longest about their subjective preferences over another...

Bring all your pettiest complaints about the playtest

MI6 may have given Bond a license to kill, but this thread gives me a license to be petty. Bring on the pretty petty Bond girls. Thieves and Thugs read weirdly. Thugs are too city savvy to be ambushed, but not city thieves who presumably spend just as much time watching out for coppers in dark...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

As long as you're aware that I never stated that, that's cool; carry on. (You know I'm wary of people coming up to me as if I'm the unelected proxy of some shib-niggurath)

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

So in normal life, people say things like 'I'm not buying that shirt, it's ugly' or 'these pants make me look fat'. Then Comic Book Guy from Simpsons comes up with that voice of his and says "Wrong, you're just unable or unwilling to find that article of clothing acceptable to you or those...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Theoretically, what if you wanted to modify a rule as the DM. Player 1 agrees. Players 2 and 3 don't want you to do it. So say the RAW stays as is. Now players 1's sense of immersion is ruined with the mechanics in place. Or players 1 and 2 want a rule ignored. Player 3 doesn't want to ignore...

D&D 5E With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

@D'karr if I understood your two options, that doesn't reinforce the larger point as it applies to my game. The third option to maintain immersion is: my PC does not choose to throw himself off the cliff. I accknowledge I have the option to use falling damage rules for 100' cliffs, but I find it...

Bring all your pettiest complaints about the playtest

My petty complaint is that petty fluff complaints are pettily validated as petty complaints, but petty mechanical complaints are invalidated as petty.
