I think that's the problem. For some the players of fighters should have as much narrative control as they could envision a star athlete to have.

Are you factoring damage per hit or damage per attack or using those terms loosely? DPA is a bit more complicated to factor, but will give you a more accurate read. Still, I think 11 damage per attack is definitely doable for a damage focused fighter.

I think that is a really interesting idea and one worth fleshing out. I wish that DND not only made that more explicit, also leaned into those conceits further so that we could have "mundanes" that could compete with magic.

Actually I often tack on a few extra skills for classes depending. Like sorcerers may gain automatic training/ use cha instead of int for arcana because they can just "feel it" fighters get the choice of athletics or acrobatics for free, that sort of thing.

One thought I had, relating to what another poster had said, had to do w/ feats and how they are used. Its a meta conceit that holds all characters are, if not strictly magical, certainly outside mundane abilities. To that end, you could have a number of points per day that enable epic effects...

Ug, what a shame, I'd really hope they'd have all that sorted out. I'm sure I can think of ways to house rule down most of the offenders though. The real question is weither it would be easier to HR 4e or 5e.
