Which of these D&D classes would you take if you had to choose one?

The Savant. D&D 5e lacks a pure mundane intelligent based Class. I would design it by drawing inspiration from the Expert described in the Sidekicks UA, but without excessive skills in combat (I would leave those for some Subclasses, like the Tactician).

D&D5e // Gamma World at GaryCon

First of all, thanks for your updates! :) Can you tell us more about the rules you used? How were the Star Frontiers Classes designed? Were they simply reskin of the D&D 5e ones or brand new Classes designed for SF? There was some more mundane Class, without spells? The SF conversion had some...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Mass Combat

With an abstract system doesn't matter how many creatures are actually killed. ;) The only thing that matters is the loss of BR. However I have recently noticed the BR total issue, equivalent to the sum of the BR of the single creatures. Independently from the system suggested by me, the BR...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Mass Combat

The abstraction is needed to simplify the Mass Combat System and make it easy to handle. But as others have said, the BR makes the System unbalanced. Li Shennon has well explained why: BR has an high score because it need to rappresent hit points other than attack. But it is precisely this...

More Volo's previews in Dragon+ Show Hags & Slithering Trackers!

@Demetrios1453 has made mistakes on posting the Dragon+previews. He posted 2 times the kobold previews, instead of the Hannis Hag and the Slithering Tracker ones: http://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/D10_Volo_Hag159.pdf http://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/D10_Volo_Tracker191.pdf

Or it serves, also, to allow players to play charachters like The Crow. ;)

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

Essentially you're saying that, as long as Third Parties don't copy the exact words of the D&D books, they can use all the D&D 5e rules (regardless this rules are not covered in the SRD). If it's true, it's something I didn't know. Interesting. :) Thank you for the explanation. So, for example...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

Yes, they need almost certainly design new Classes, as well as they probably need to design new sub-systems or introduce new Variants. Based on what I've learned, though, they can't design new rules using the ones not covered in the 5e SRD. For example, they cannot design a Class that uses...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

No, I'm not sarcastic. ;) Only in this last two years I've started to dig seriously into the OGL and SRD question. Until a few years ago, I've never considered this topic. Now I can say I have learned something about the legal issues, but I'm unaware about how companies have managed the legal...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

Thank you for the clarification. ;) I was not completly aware of that. With the 5e SRD they can freely tweek the game, but they must "reinvent the wheel" when they need to use rules that are not covered in the SRD. Or they need to know how to refer to the original D&D 5e rules, without mention...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

That's really interesting. :) I really hope that's possibile!! I'm really curious, however, to see how they manage to refer their books to the D&D ones, without writing in any place the D&D name and without using sentences like "Read Dungeon Master Guide, page **, section Example". OGL don't...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

It's not merely a logo issue. ;) I think the questions are: - how much the 5e SRD will limit their work or how much it will force them to work more, only to design something already existing? - Can they omit some rules from their book, implying that players can find them in the original D&D...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

Yes, I firmly agree with that. But look at the other side of the coin.... With the actual SRD Third Parties cannot experiment with a lot of D&D 5e rules, in order to build new game opportunities. They cannot design a new Class using Maneuvers, they cannot design a new Fighter's subclass that...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

I'm a little sorry about that. :( Not only with a regular OGL they cannot use some of the most interesting D&D 5e rules (Fighter's Maneuvers and the various Optional Rules and Variants provided by PHB, MM and DMG), but an official D&D license given to Third Parties would have meant an...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

On Twitter, Mike Mearls has definitively clarified the Cubicle 7 license question: it's an OGL. https://twitter.com/mikemearls/status/710340192738017281

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Takes on Modern Magic

@Herobizkit: In this topic we talk about having Modern rules in 5e Style, not about having a simple Copy and Paste from d20 Modern. ;) @Yaarel: My Wizard example was a demonstration of use of what we might simply call "Re-flavoring" or "Reskin". You don't need necessarly to have new rules to...

Thant's what Dan Hermick said about his D&D 5e Modern rules: https://twitter.com/JabJabSliceJab/status/628906137790746624 "If any rules are forthcoming, they will be through WotC's website. If you want more Modern D&D UA, buzz them! Thanks for reading!" So, if any of you wish to see more D&D...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Takes on Modern Magic

Personally I haven't this problem. I never had problems to reinterpret the D&D rules in a different way. It must be a matter of subjective feeling. I've no problem about using the Wizard to play a fringe technology student, who have changed his body to become a human 2.0 and to acquire...
