Don't think so, it's just about the complexity of the genre really. Monopoly is the classic example of super simple, entry level game you can play with grandparents and children: it has just a wider target.

I'd also add Mage Knight to the mix: not really D&D rule-wise but has a lot of its flavor. Great game though, both for single and multi player.
