D&D 5E Turning a boring trap into an exciting encounter.

one of the most nasty traps I used is the following : A tilting floor in a corridor that dropped the players in a room below it. The floor of the room they where dropped in was covered in 2 inches of flammable oil. And there was a stone golem made from flint in the room. Meaning all attacks...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

I had a look at the CC SRD they released. It specifically applies to that version of the 5.1 SRD. Unlike the OGL it has no language about also applying to later versions of the SRD. This almost makes me think they intend this to be the last SRD version they release, and that whatever DnD One...

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

a see it now it is a sub section of the SRD pages 56-104, 254-260, and 358-359 So does not include : races classes spells monsters Gods Planes of existence Miscellaneous creatures And NPCs that are in the SRD.

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

from the survey : How would you rate your level of understanding and your level of satisfaction with the content found in the SRD that will be released under Creative Commons? Anybody know where I can find this SRD ?

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

Some people have nice conversations with brick walls. You saying it is un called for might be seen as hateful against either people that like talking to brick walls or brick walls themselves. As the OGL draft says WOTC has the sole right to decide what conduct or content is hateful. So we all...

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

I did not read the whole tread and somebody might have wondered about this before. How does this work ? "contain both Our Licensed Content and Your Content; " they describe their Licensed Content as being the SRD. So you must include something from the SRD ? Pathfinder 2 did not use anything...

D&D (2024) Arcane/Divine/Primal Spell Lists: Are the Benefits Real?

I did not read the whole thread so this might be mentioned before. To me it feels like having exceptions like the Ranger uses the Primal list except evocation and the bard gets access to the arcane list but only these schools undermines any benefit a unified spell list would give you. New...

    D&D (2024) Rebalancing melee weapons for 5.5E

Personally I think that in the unarmed strike rules they should add that you need a free hand to grapple. That combined with that in the new grappling rules saying you have disadvantage on attacks except against the creature grappling you might lead to single weapon and free hand becoming...

    D&D (2024) New Optional Rules

A guide for flipping roles from DM to player side or vice versa. So you could flip all rolls to the players side so the DM only works with static numbers. The orc attacks you with his great sword, make your AC roll 20+ac modifier vs the orcs attack DC 10+attack bonus. You fireball 5 orcs roll...

D&D (2024) The new playtest Exhaustion rules has already fixed the exploration pillar a lot.

They are still pretty harsh, my regular group is pretty risk averse when it comes to penalties. the first level of exhaustion in the old system was Disadvantage on Ability checks this is something they might consider suffering, as it did not reduce their effectiveness in combat that much. But...

D&D (2024) So the Power Feats Got Nerfed!

I think that if something like this would return it would become -prof mod to hit +2x prof mod to damage. As one of the problems was that there was no scaling in the -5 +10 making it very powerful on low levels if yo managed to hit.

D&D (2024) There needs to be a 4th spell list.

I am not sure you need a separate spell list for that, but I do think song of healing should be a choice. Where you can chose: Song of healing : healing spells. Song of battle : offensive buff spells Song of defense : defensive buff spells.

D&D (2024) Down Leveling spells, from the Expert Classes playtest.

Not read the whole tread just budding in based on the first few posts. Downcasting can be interesting If you do that you probably should combine the Mage hand and the Bigby hand spells into one. What you can make the hand do depends on spell slot used.

D&D (2024) D&D One Changes to the Rogue...

A level 20 playtest rogue does a average of 38.17 Damage per round. ( not using any feats) The 5e fighter using feats from the playtest can only beat that constantly By getting the Pole arm Master and great weapon fighter feats getting the fighter to a DPR of 40.83 at level 20. So a question...

D&D (2024) 48 subclasses in the 2024 PHB: What are they?

lets put in a wild card. There will be 4 or 8 subclasses that are group subclasses. These can be picked by all classes in the class group.

D&D (2024) D&D One Changes to the Rogue...

That is not much of a change the old rules say : You can't hide from a creature that can see you clearly, and you give away your position if you make noise So if you got out your cover and a creature could see you you where no longer hidden. There is the line : In combat, most creatures stay...

D&D (2024) What's your opinion on the standardization of Spellcasters?

All spellcasters prepare spells. With a fixed set of always prepared spells per class. I assume the Sorcerer will be a spontaneous caster, during the DnD Next playtest ( became 5e) many people felt that other classes being spontaneous casters in a way took away from what made the Sorcerer feel...

D&D (2024) There needs to be a 4th spell list.

I have not read the full thread, so something like this might already be mentioned somewhere. Having more unified spell lists can make things easier, as long as you then do not create exceptions. 2 of the 3 classes we have seen already have exceptions saying you have access to list X and then...

D&D (2024) Make SPELL SCHOOLS Thematic (and Useful)

So in ADnD 2nd it came down to that instantaneous conjuration spells created objects and effects hat where not magical. And acid arrow was a instantaneous conjurationspell. Counter spell would still work because your preventing the spell from being successfully cast.

D&D (2024) Was there a collector's edition of the 2014 core books? Do you expect one for the 2024 books?

Looking at 5e I have no doubt there will be a special edition with alternative cover art There where special editions for both the 4e and 5e core books. I do not own the 5e special edition. But between the 3.5 and 4e special editions, the 3.5 special edition was by far the best. What made them...
