I usually build my character to fill the spot open in the group, which right now is a front line tank. In 13 lvls I've had 3 fighters, a dragon shaman, a melee wizard, a Beguiler, and most recently a psi warrior. His idea of OP toons are toons stronger than the rest of the party or stronger...

We are pretty much on the same page about the mistakes and consequences are.. My frustration is with his expectation or rather view of "balanced" is. You can't run a high power campaign and expect characters equivalent to a 28pt buy build to survive with out full optimization if you as the DM...
