    D&D 5E Categories of Magic

I would categorize them in the following way: Arcane: as you said it comes from the understanding of the rules/laws of magic and main practitioners include wizards and artificers. Divine: magic that is granted from the gods (no matter how present or absent they are from the world), from faith...

    D&D 5E Using Subclasses at Level 1?

In the dnd next playtest all subclasses started from level one at some point, but then the designers decided that they wanted 1-2 levels to be introductory or tutorial levels where the character is not fully defined or has a specialization yet so they bumped them to level 3. Following that...

    D&D 5E Version 5.25 -- what do you change?

    1. Fix the ranger. 2. Crafting rules. 3. Subclasses for all classes start from level 1 and all classes get subclass features at the same levels. 4. Remove perception as a skill and make it similar to how initiative works but still based on WIS. 5. Make concentration based on INT. 6. Remove stat...

    Ability Score Rebalancing

I would divide initiative, perception and concentration among INT, WIS and CHA. This and a better distribution of saves would make mental stats more attractive. Also balances STR and DEX since now they would both govern damage, hit and AC.

WotC Baldur's Gate III Announced; Powered by D&D 5E

Converting the DnD 5e rules from tabletop to computer RPG format will provide a lot of interesting feedback to WotC for what works and what is broken, which I hope they use to improve this edition and create a better edition when that time comes. For example I cannot imagine a video game...

D&D 5E The Final Announcement from The Descent Live Stream: Eberron Hardcover

I guess they are pretty set on the current design of the artificer, since this book is going to be released so soon. :S

Are you satisfied enough with the Artificer to publish it?

I mostly like the base class, but some abilities such as spell storing item and extra attunement slots should come online much earlier and then scale as you level. I really dislike that all subclasses have a pet/minion. The alchemist and archivist pets could be optional through infusions, the...

    D&D 5E Ability Score Improvement / Feats: Class-based or Level-based?

Voted level-based, but I prefer both. I like symmetry so, all classes get the same number of feats at the same levels, so level based. In the case of multiclassing feats are delayed, so class based.

    Guns in D&D - A Hot Take

I like the types of guns included in the setting of the Pillars of Eternity games. Based on that game, the range of the guns from short to long would be, blunderbusses followed by pistols, with only arquebuses having the same range as bows or crossbows. Regarding damage, I would make a...

D&D 5E Old Vexed Question: All too Important Dexterity Stat and Finesse Weapons, namely the Rapier

STR and DEX affect damage and hit for a specific set of weapons and AC either directly (DEX) or indirectly (STR to use heavy armor). Any imbalance between the two arises by DEX having a better distribution of saving throws, that it affects more skills and also initiative. The first one can be...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

How is every class getting to chose a subclass at the same level (all either at 1st, 2nd or 3rd for the first level) imply getting rid spellcaster tables.

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

I really like 5e but there are quite a few things that could be done better/differently. Having to choose between feats and ASIs. Tool proficiencies being for the most part flavor only but taking up the space of a skill. The ranger :/ This is more of a personal pet peeve. Different classes...

Do We Really Need Half-Elves and Half-Orcs?

I don't have a problem with half- races and whether they are included in the game depends on the DM/story. Mechanically though i think they could have worked better as human subraces, since the other half of the name implies human heritage.

D&D 5E Mike Mearls Happy Fun Hour, Nov 27 2018

IMO, it seems that in trying not to change the PHB ranger he is introducing features that are awkward to implement. The way the existing subclasses interact with the pact-like options is not elegant. The hunter eye and new natural explorer are straight up better than the existing versions and...

    Revamping the Warlock

For me the warlock would have been the ideal arcane-martial (INT) half-caster. Spell progression up to level 5, per long rest. I would change eldritch blast to require a weapon attack, keep invocations and throw pacts away or make them invocations. Those are more than enough mechanics, although...

    Revised Ranger update

I have to say that I am kinda sorry that we won't be getting an official revised ranger. I do not believe that the main problems of the ranger are the dpr output or the overall theme of the ranger, but the feel and implementation of some of the abilities. For me favored enemy, favored terrain...

    D&D (2024) Would 4 spell lists work in D&D (maybe 6e)?

I wouldn't mind it if magic was divided into four lists, though I would prefer if those were arcane, divine, primal and psychic, instead of arcane/divine. Classes would get access only to one list, with the exception of bard that gets partial access to all lists and maybe sorcerer/warlock (list...

D&D 5E Which classes would you like to see added to D&D 5e, if any? (check all that apply)

I can see why a gunsmith would not fit in all campaign settings. I am not aware if it is "needed", but I didn't mind it, since the subclass blended guns and magic. On the other hand, a non-magic oriented gun wielding subclass would interest me a lot less. Rules for such weapons could be added...

D&D 5E Which classes would you like to see added to D&D 5e, if any? (check all that apply)

I voted for Alchemist and Artificer, but i would prefer if they were included as one class which is an arcane half-caster (5 lvls + cantrips), that is Int based. The spell list could have more utility oriented spells than damage or healing. Instead each subclass could offer options like the...

D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: What subclasses made the cut?

Glad they changed the name of deep stalker to gloom stalker, it was a too interesting archetype to make it have such a specific flavor, like the underdark.
