Let's compile errors we have found in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes

Are the Shadar-Kai supposed to have been nerfed quite so hard compared to the UA version? I'm wondering, especially when comparing them with the Eladrin, whether changing BotRQ to long rest instead of long or short is just down to missing words. Certainly I'd never play a Shadar-Kai exactly as...

Is Dark Sun Coming To D&D?

Flying My complaint about flying is the varying speeds and restrictions. I wish they'd standardize it as a race feature, whether you start out as an Aarakocra or Winged Tiefling, or pick up the Winged feat later on. Sure, flying won't fit all campaigns - but where it does fit, if you're...

D&D 5E "Warlord" Fighter sub-class from MMHFT podcast. Further duscussion.

I know it's a first draft, but I hope if they move forward they manage to avoid: 1) implying the Warlord knows better than other party members how other party members can best use their abilities 2) "you and your allies howl in rage" (or any other "you and your allies do X" things) 3) "you...

D&D 5E Mike Mearls Twitter Poll: "The druid gets one of the following: Spellcasting | Shapeshifting | Animal companions. Choose."

I would love a class focused on shape-shifting. Druid isn't the best name for such a class, but the twitter poll doesn't seem to allow for that sort of nuance. My preference is a new class without spell slots that's great at changing shapes.

Do you multiclass for raw mechanical power or for character reasons?

I haven't actually multi-classed yet but when I do, it will be to better fit a concept. I have some ideas where a little magic fits but a lot doesn't, so I plan to mix some Rogue with Bard or Ranger, if I get around to those characters. One thing D&D lacks is sufficient variety of non-magic...

Playing D&D: Homebrew or Published Setting? Why?

The one D&D game I've played in so far was homebrew. It looks like the next campaign I play in will be homebrew modeled in some ways after a setting. If I ever run, it will probably be homebrew, unless I have a specific idea for a setting that's particularly non-generic (such as Eberron or...

    Versatile healer/melee build

Would your GM allow you to change your wizard's specialization to Bladesinger? If you have high dex and like the character it might be worth considering as a way to get into melee, though I don't think it would help with healing at all. No wisdom score might explain why your wizard gets into...

    D&D 5E Rogue (Scout)/Ranger (Gloom Stalker) multiclassing

I'm considering a Rogue (Scout)/Ranger (Gloom Stalker) character for an upcoming game starting at 5th level. Both subclasses seem really cool, and it would give me tons of utility through skills, adding a little magic later. Once it all comes together I'm pretty sure the build will work, but...

    D&D 5E Hexblade Build

You could consider Improved Pact Weapon until you find a magical weapon, but I think that would be a fairly even trade with either Grasp of Hadar or Tomb of Levistus - damage versus control versus survivability. Or take it if you don't have a magic weapon at level 9.

Coolest Cantrips for a Fiendish Tomelock

Thanks for the suggestions so far. So many choices... I don't carry a staff currently, but it wouldn't be very hard to acquire one. However, I'm strongly considering taking Spell Sniper as my first or second feat and getting Shocking Grasp that way as a melee option. Primal Savagery is an...

Coolest Cantrips for a Fiendish Tomelock

I'm hoping my Tiefling Warlock hits level 3 this weekend, and looking for ideas in case I've missed anything really cool for my cantrips. Background: Fiend Patron, Tomelock (or will be), party includes a Cleric who has Guidance and Spare the Dying, but I'm the only arcane caster. I started...

Campaigns: How long is too long?

This is what my group does, at least in theory. Everyone gets chances to run and play (if anyone didn't want to run that would have been fine). I'm really enjoying running a VTR campaign, but after two more sessions we will rotate, and I'll come back to it with more energy eventually.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Feats for Races

I love the idea of these. It gives the option of, instead of focusing on enhancing class-stuff, enhancing race-stuff - a whole other dimension to customizing your character, particularly if playing a Tiefling or Dragonborn. I do think these options should be balanced with similar features...

D&D 5E DM query: Any interesting differences between different party sizes?

My experience is non-D&D, but generally I find the game itself goes better with a small group (2-3 players) but that's outweighed by the fun of having everyone there (5 players+DM). Sure, we make less progress and spotlight time is split, but there are more ideas and more jokes. I'm pretty...

    D&D 5E Your one hope for D&D?

As a newcomer to D&D, I'd like to see settings like Eberron and Dark Sun. Also, for everyone in my group to suddenly be rich and able to retire so we can play more often.

    LEGO Revisits the Dungeon Crawl

I'd buy this, but it does offer more utility to people who already have a Lego collection. I agree that it would be most useful as several separate sets - that allows building up larger themed areas etc. I don't think that fits well into the Ideas framework, but it would certainly help. (I'd...

    I'm sick of Kickstarters

Since I don't want to pay an unknown amount to get my stuff, I don't order it. Whether they can find cheaper ways to ship stuff or not, figuring out those costs in advance doesn't seem like too much to ask. But yeah, between kickstarter and drivethru, I miss books being on Amazon and/or store...

    I'm sick of Kickstarters

My issue is the shipping; I usually avoid buying PDFs and always avoid "price mystery" purchases such as drivethrurpg and Kickstarter. The chance that the extra cost will be prohibitive, on top of the chance the product won't be good, makes it too much of a chance. If they can solve that I'll...

    D&D 5E New to D&D. Warlock - Sorcerer Multiclass

I'm hoping to play a Tomelock in my first game and I'm actually thinking the effectiveness of Hex + Eldritch Blast opens up a lot of possibilities. If those (with Agonizing Blast) guarantee basic combat effectiveness, it means I can play around with whatever seems coolest for all my other...

D&D 5E Anti-DM Tips (AKA what NOT to do!)

Take too few notes, and make sure what you do write down is handwritten on loose sheets of paper.
