    D&D 5E Mythological Figures: Hel

Hel is a giantess - Her father, Loki, is a fire giant by birth, her mother, Angerboda, is (probably) a hill giant or frost giant - this should be reflected in her write-up. There are guidelines for monstrous races as PCs or NPCs in the official rules IIRC. As for the coloration of her: "She...

    D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

You should replace "real world" with "modern". Many ancient cultures, all of which thought themselves as "Good" had no objection to that kind of behavior, and even encouraged it. Evil is selfish, Good is altruistic, Law is ordered, and Chaos is about individual freedom. Killing "innocents"...

D&D General A paladin just joined the group. I'm a necromancer.

Look at existing real-world cultures, and you find that there are many who see the grave the way that you seem to talk about is a sacrilege, depending on the beliefs about death. You are talking about some of this society's beliefs - and even those are not universal in this country. Many...

D&D General A paladin just joined the group. I'm a necromancer.

It has been made very clear in the past by TSR staff that the zombies and skeletons do not react to their environment if they are not attacked or commanded to - they simply stand there. The difference is that Elementals are living creatures who resent being ripped from their home plane to do...

Let me also state that there is no stipulation in the rules before the 5th edition that stipulates dark or evil magic is what animates skeletons or zombies is "dark magic" - that shows the attitudes of the writer. In earlier editions, it was simply magic that animated them - a neutral force.

I agree with the situation that you use here, it could be construed as evil but in most cases that only applies to zombies - skeletons all look pretty much the same. And I never said that I approved of "dumping them on the doorstep", I said that the necromancer reburied them in their original...

The first actual rule in the fifth edition DMG: The D&D rules help you and the other players have a good time, but the rules aren't in charge. You're the DM, and you are in charge of the game. That said, your goal isn't to slaughter the adventurers but to create a campaign world that revolves...

    D&D General D&D Pronunciation Guide

Sorry about that - the British pronunciation is the one that most people use (clicked on the speaker link to hear it said. Even the Brits have forgotten the roots of their own language LOL. May the wind be ever at your back. Mike Hinshaw

    D&D General D&D Pronunciation Guide

I beg to differ on the pronunciation of "lich". As a student of ancient languages, I encountered the root word for this. This is from the "Your Dictionary" page: lich lich Brit., Dial. a dead body Origin of lich Middle English from Old English lic, akin to German leiche, corpse from...
