Level Up (A5E) What would you *call* an Advanced 5E?

Here are some bad ideas: 5th Edition, 12th printing. 5th Edition 2. Dungeons and Dragons. (no numbers or anything) 5th Edition, "5E" 5th Edition, Forgotten Realms Edition. 2e + 3. +1 5th Edition. 5th Edition featuring Dante from Devil May Cry.

    D&D 5E homebrew subclass Rogue:Thug

Hmm. Perhaps something to encourage that? A +2 to AC until next turn on any disengage/dash action.

D&D 5E Fictional examples of Rangers

Their military equivalent - a scout - was either alone or in a small group to avoid detection. So, most fictional parallels would be the same.

D&D 5E Fictional examples of Rangers

The Fremen from Dune are rangers by all definitions. They even have favored enemies: Harkonnens. Link is basically a ranger in the most recent Zelda games.

    D&D 5E homebrew subclass Rogue:Thug

Ignoring the non-debate about intimidation. This is a cool subclass 17 is really late for a second attack, but two sneak attacks makes it worth it. I'd even drop the rule about it being multiple targets to sweeten the pot. Something you might not have considered - by making the rogue a bit...

D&D General A more story-based mechanic for "somewhat grittier" healing - has this been done in D&D before, and would you use it?

I'm into it. I've never had a healing discussion with my players, and don't totally understand the "issue" people are trying to avoid on this forum. I like these sorts of penalties for crits, though, or for wounds depending on the scenario. How would you introduce this at level 1, when most...

    D&D 5E Design Thread - "What makes a Knight?"

Looking back on my post, it seems a bit curt - I forgot to mention that I like the idea of a knight class, more closely tied to heavy armor and being a good guy. I think there's space for it in DnD (for those opposed, think Warlock between Wizard and Sorceror). I think Mercer's old gunslinger...

D&D 5E Mask of Many Faces Combat Idea

Depends on the conditions of the fight, but yeah, generally I'd give the player a reward for doing cool naughty word.

    D&D 5E Feats for Monks

Also, Monks use every part of their turn already (action, movement, bonus action), so there's little space to add feats. A monk with an Eldritch Invocation can make a huge difference. Shadow Monk and Devil's Sight? Come on!

    D&D 5E Design Thread - "What makes a Knight?"

I'd recommend Knights also regain Vow after a long rest, perhaps flavored like a Wizard's preparations, the Knight renews the vow as part of their morning routines. Foot Knight's shoulder charge is a Wisdom save. That seems odd. I'd suggest Strength if anything. Likewise, the Knight being a...

D&D 5E House Rules for Two Players

Ran a game for 2 before: houserule was that 0hp but stable means defeated and out of the fight, but can move, carry, and do skills at disadvantage. (The other PC was a gnome and couldn't reasonably be dragging a half-orc fighter around) Ran a game for 1: Basically no rules changed. They...

Unearthed Arcana 16 New UA Feats: THE POLL!

Getting an extra eldritch invocation would be really nice. It's also a good way for humans to get Devil's sight at first level. I quite like all of these. They seem mostly strong, and cater to lots of character builds.

D&D 5E Pact of the Quill

The Pen is mighter than the Sword... Pact of the Quill, to me, sounds like sharp whit and skill. Bard, basically - emphasizing the charisma of Warlocks. The quill might give expertise, or something. Not a literal quill, but the idea of mind over muscle.

Looking for party synergies, not one character, but this thread is valuable in its insights as well.

    Interesting class synergies

Rezzing because it's a good thread. Does anyone have ideas for this around 5th level? Simple synergies from my play experience: Area of effect spell casters + Totem Bear Barbarian with Evasion Barbarian takes quarter or eighth damage, enemies not so lucky. Barbarian 5 and Fighter 5 (well, 2...

    D&D 5E Ideas For a World of Islands? (+thread)

Also, notes from my time in Indonesia and on other islands in that part of the world, for scene description or things to think about... It's humid as can be - which also enhances smells. Fresh plants and fruit smell much better and smog smells much worse. (In Yogyakarta, I felt the smog wasn't...

    D&D 5E Ideas For a World of Islands? (+thread)

Island dwarfism is very common (less nutrition sources means smaller critters are more likely to prosper). I'd say that should put Grungs in an exalted position. Perhaps gnomes and halflings can be pretty well-established in their own places. Real world island nations tended to be collections...

D&D 5E Stealth and sleeping creatures

-5 seems fair. I'd modify this slightly, based on some real world conditions. Sleeping under threat (in the wild/if worried about being pursued, etc) leaves us in lighter sleep in general (or makes our senses more ready to kick up to awake). If the dragon knows the PCs are coming, I'd leave...

D&D General Orc Extravaganza! (Crowdsourcing Orc Variations)

Spit-balling some ideas here... Origins: Orcs have been around from a time before any other sentient race. Their own history lost, even to the gods, some suggest they killed their creator in a time before time, other suggest orcs were a mistake that the gods refuse to admit, and others still...

    D&D 5E Limited Wish - Money Maker?

Players have a lot of money in 5e. That's different from having unlimited money, as far as negotiations/influence goes.
