    Who Playtested This Anyway?

This 'improved' playtesting methodology still let Armor of Agathys through...

The Battle Continues Over "Childish Things"

Yeah, this is a big miss for Maher, who proudly acts like a horny teenager from a Teen Comedy circa 1980... I don't see much difference between spending 4 hours at a ballgame, or other sporting contest as an adult, than watching Critical Role every week. I'm certain that at one point, some...

Robert Schwalb releases his version of Warlord

That's ok. When Dex becomes a casting stat in 6E, Charisma can join the other five as a dump stat. We can have a whole section on how your lowest non-Dex stat is a story choice.

Beowulf, & Greeks: New 5E Settings Coming From Handiwork Games

I was on the fence about Hellinistika, although the art is nice. Ken Hite being involved will probably tip the scales for me on that one, I don't know how I missed that he was writing it.

John Wick Presents Lays Off 7th Sea Staff

I'm not really surprised. I own the new 7th Sea I can run the game perfectly from the first book and the supplements mostly contain world information and advice instead of useful game tools like adventures or monsters. The next books were of little interest to me because of that. I just don't...

Worlds of Design: “All About Me” RPGs (Part 2)

Militaristic and Tactical play is alive and well today, just like styles of play that are not like that have been around at least since the 80s when I started playing. White Wolf world of Darkness games, for example, had conflict between party members baked in as part of the fun of the game...

The Witcher Cover, Art, Info & Q&A Announced!

I'm a little disappointed that the game did not focus exclusively on Witchers, but still eager to read this.

Take An Adventure In Dystopia With West End Game's Original Paranoia

The first non D&D game I played. We were pre-teens. A friend's babysitter ran the game for his birthday. To this day I can distinctly remember my first attempt to use a cone rifle. It did not go well :) Good times... even with crazy kids.

Pathfinder 2's Critical Hits & Failures! Plus Save-or-Suck and Damage On A Miss!

We have been doing critical hits similar to this way for years. I know my group is not the only one who does so, even in my limited circle. I like the way Paizo has thought it out, so far, and look forward to seeing more.

D&D 5E Are powergamers a problem and do you allow them to play in your games?

I find this definition of power-gaming being problematic a lot clearer and more acceptable to me than the OPs. If the thread had started with this strong definition, I doubt we'd be seventeen pages in. Oddly that means that more people might see the way you handle it since it is midway through a...

Should time spent on system mechanics be based in interest or importance/risk?

This is why I leaned toward letting the players decide the focus. One player might want his duel with a hated foe resolved down to excruciating detail, while the rest of the party chooses less granular combat in order to watch. It probably does not work (yet), but it is an interesting idea for a...

Should time spent on system mechanics be based in interest or importance/risk?

I like where you are going with this. I was thinking of a system that could shift between levels of rules granularity based on player desire/focus a few days ago, so based on my current thinking I would go with 'more interesting to players'. I am very interested to read what people think.

    D&D 5E Mearls' "Firing" tweet

I find his wording a bit off, especially since I like complex rules ;) ... but I have to apply the principle of charity here. I think he is referring to the gate-keeping behavior being the problem, not my love of Champions and Power-gaming nature.

D&D 5E Are powergamers a problem and do you allow them to play in your games?

If a player is being disruptive, you take them aside and explain the situation, if that does not work you ask them to leave. That goes for any type of disruptive behavior. That said, Power Gaming is not inherently disruptive. If the rest of your players are excited about social encounters and...

    D&D General Welcome Thread

Hello, friends! I'm here to check out what is going on in discussions about RPGs, mostly for exposure to new opinions outside of my usual haunts. I love seeing what people are playing and creating. The state of gaming these days has made me almost giddy with its wondrous variety. I mostly run...
