What is the point of GM's notes?

I also drink a lot less coffee, and get a lot more sleep than I used to.

What is the point of GM's notes?

To help the GM adjust the difficulty level or CR to a given sandbox to match the experience level of a party.

Need DM opinions about Gnome equipage...

Fullcaster, maybe you would care to elaborate on what you find so humorous. There is literally no mention of this issue through any published edition of the PHB.

Need DM opinions about Gnome equipage...

As a Gnome/ Druid, this character has access to many useful natural substances, as equipment /components for play. This character lives in the woods, talks to animals, and has, IMO, unique free access to items not listed in the Player's Manual. Items such as beeswax, honey, bee-glue(propolis)...

To DM or not to DM. That is the question. Any advice?

I trade DMing for Role playing. The agreement is I will DM, but not constantly or permanently. This only works if you have others willing to DM.

Rolling Hit and Damage dice together.

It's pretty simple. House rules. Sorry, I call D20 "hit dice", my bad. So you role a just below par hit die. IF you roll your damage die, (or dice) and you roll high damage, dividing by 3, and using it as a modifier to the hit die, it can make a miss a hit with lighter damage. It's only...

Rolling Hit and Damage dice together.

It saves time, and you can use an optional "to hit" bonus. Say HD is 15. Your player rolls a 13 to hit, and 6 to damage. If you divide the damage by 3(2), and add the result to the hit die, you then have a hit, at the reduced damage of 2, rather than 6. You could call it a glancing blow. Has...

    Advice: Overpowered Abilities

Or Hexblade gone awry, for example. You start using it, an enemy attack collapses your knee, you turn 90 degrees, and attack the meatshield standing next to, or obliquely in front of you, by accident. One of the functions of a DM is to maintain balance, whether it's a tightrope, level playing...

How gonzo will you roll with?

I'll allow an occasional departure from RAW, but I won't walk away from them. For me, the game need some sort of guidelines, ere it descends into gibberish, with each following mawp more outlandish than the last.

    Barbed metal arrows

It's creative, imagine the fear and loss of morale it would cause, in enemies, alone.

    Advice: Overpowered Abilities

The LAST time the spell was cast, it was an unbridled success. Next time the spell is cast it will be an epic failure. Welcome to the wild world of magic. Balance is also at the center of a seesaw...

Readying a Spell and Breaking Concentration

IMO, it depends on the experience of the caster, and the difficulty of the spell. If it's a level 7 Mage casting a level 2 spell, no charge. If it's a Level 4 Wizard casting a new, Level4 spell, that's going to at least get a concentration check.

    “Who started it?” Initiative order

The biggest advantage would be in the lower levels. Given a standard size party of five or six, acceding one initiative, occasionally, to the one character who actually starts the attack seems little enough, to keep play moving, and morale up. Given, of course, that it is an unpredicted and...

    The Min-Max Problem: Solved

Min-maxing is a great deal of the fun, IMO. Progressing thru levels, and advancing your character adds to the reality, and the fun. When I am in game, I'm constantly reviewing my character sheet, considering either skill or equipment enhancements, or future moves, responses, or reactions. So...

    Everybody Cheats?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good point. Remember the old joke where the guy walked up to a beautiful blonde, and said "Would you go to bed with me for a million dollars?" The blonde thought about it for a minute, and said "I suppose so." Then the guy said "How about 50$?" The blonde got all indignant, and...

What do you find hardest when running RPGs?

Too right. We used to have a game where the DM and one player would just dick around interminably for hours before we finally got started. We'd show up at 8:00, and things would drag along till about 1 AM, when we would finally get started. Needless to say, this kind of queered the whole...

FAMOUS LAST WORDS: "It wouldn't be here if we weren't supposed to fight it."

Bwa-ha-ha-ha! I've used the overpowering monster to attempt to illustrate the folly of over- encumbrance. Of course, if the party can't figure out that the monster is too strong to fight, they also may not be able to figure out they are attempting to carry too much, either.

    Would you allow this?

IMO, there are two different physical states. 1. Invisible- a state (brought on by magic, or some other agent) in which someone, can stare right at you, and not see you. You cannot achieve true "invisibility" with a Stealth check. 2. Unseen- That state by which you are literally "hiding in...
