Level Up (A5E) Strength vs Dexterity imbalance cannot be solved without addressing the Melee vs Ranged Imbalance.

Consider it payback for getting shot at for a few rounds before the melee man got into range? :P Perhaps it is too generous and should have some sort of penalty associated with it, but consider also that the next round the archer either has to switch to melee, fire at point blank with...

Level Up (A5E) Strength vs Dexterity imbalance cannot be solved without addressing the Melee vs Ranged Imbalance.

How so? For one, this will probably only be used by PCs 90% of the time, and if an enemy is able to reach you with a Dash anyway, hasn't your "clever use of terrain" already failed?

    D&D 5E 5e Assassin build Advice

Keep in mind your character will be in a party of adventurers, you don't need to be a one-person army. Pass without trace is a decent spell, but with expertise and high Dex you hardly need it to be good at stealth, and if you do, let someone else cast it. Hunter's mark is also decent, but 5...

Level Up (A5E) Strength vs Dexterity imbalance cannot be solved without addressing the Melee vs Ranged Imbalance.

I think ranged characters would still choose the revised feat regardless, but if you feel it is underpowered, just keep it as originally written.

Level Up (A5E) Strength vs Dexterity imbalance cannot be solved without addressing the Melee vs Ranged Imbalance.

A simple way to address Sharpshooter is by restricting the character to one of the listed benefits per shot, i.e. they can either gain -5/+10, or ignore cover, or shoot long range without disadvantage, but not all of them together. The feat is then still very good, but also makes cover useful...

Level Up (A5E) A "Quick" Character Generation Sheet

Spells definitely slow things down, especially if you aren't very familiar with at least the most common low level ones. If you're newer to the game and want to speed up the character generation time, one thing that helps me is getting a stack of 3x5 or 5x7 index cards and transcribing the...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Not 40+ just yet! ;) Besides, surely there are plenty of young grognards-in-the-making that could make a Greyhawk : Revival profitable?

Level Up (A5E) A "Quick" Character Generation Sheet

I think it's worth keeping in mind that a character sheet's primary function should be to facilitate finding information needed during play - character generation only happens once, while the resulting character sheet may be used for many dozens of sessions.

Level Up (A5E) A "Quick" Character Generation Sheet

I think the most important thing is to first ask yourself what it is about the standard character sheet that you feel needs improvement, and then go from there. 2 pages (not including spells) is what I would personally consider the max for any "official"-type character sheet, but for personal...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I wouldn't include myself in that group, as I never got into the setting, but as someone who began playing around that era I think a book that has nonmagical subclass options for the majority of classes, obviously customizable "suggested" lists of allowed races, classes, and even race+class...

Level Up (A5E) A "Quick" Character Generation Sheet

So is this meant to be an alternate character sheet then? I'm not understanding why we would need a 6 page document if we weren't intended to write on it, but I don't know anyone who would use a 6-page sheet when they have a 2-page option instead.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Saga of the Old City was the only book I ever read in the Greyhawk setting, but it left quite an impression on me. It was such a different type of story than those told in the Dragonlance novels, of which I read many.

Level Up (A5E) A "Quick" Character Generation Sheet

I think it would work better as a simple step-by-step guide to be used in tandem with a character sheet, rather than a fill-in form of its own. At least for myself, I'd much rather write things once than twice. E.g.: 1. Roll ability scores (page #s) 2. Select Race (page #s) 3. Select Background...

This is great! Don't suppose you have the same for D&D / d20 systems?

D&D 5E If all Rangers had an animal companion ...

Per Wikipedia, "Rangers were full-time soldiers employed by colonial governments to patrol between fixed frontier fortifications in reconnaissance providing early warning of raids. In offensive operations, they were scouts and guides, locating villages and other targets for taskforces drawn from...

D&D 5E If all Rangers had an animal companion ...

As both a DM and a player, I have a strong dislike for animal companions because they tend to either complicate just about everything, or they get completely ignored until the player suddenly remembers they have them for one specific moment, and then everyone forgets about them again. Going...

    D&D General Ending the Slog

I'm with Oofta - combat in 5e generally has fewer rounds rather than more, but I could see it potentially turning into a slog if one or both sides are very difficult to hit, do insignificant damage on a hit, or both. For example (albeit an extreme one), if you had a horde of regular zombies...

D&D 5E Yes, I know what RAW says, but, Effects of allowing Sneak Attack on Monk attacks.

A rogue can already use two-weapon fighting to gain a bonus action off-hand attack for an extra chance at landing Sneak Attack - this is essentially identical to the monk's regular bonus action unarmed attack. Is an extra attack once in a while from Flurry of Blows, using a limited resource...
