    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

I think giving more uses to skills is a good idea, although bounded accuracy doesn't play too well with the epic uses. With higher numbers you can just go, "Yeah, you can walk through a stone wall with a DC 45 Athletics check, go nuts", while in 5e I think that'd be more on the realm of a...

D&D 5E How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

I think just nerfing the outlier spells or poorly written spells should do the trick (Simulacrum, Hypnotic Pattern, Animate Objects, Glyph of Warding, Forcecage, Wall of Force, Magic Aura, Magic Jar, etc). Maybe limit casting in armor as well.

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

Been playing Divinity Original Sin and found it interesting there how everyone has magic, even the "martial" classes. The Man at Arms is good at tanking and hitting things, but they also have a super scream that buffs all allies with resolve, can charge like a ram in a straight line and knock...

Watched the trailer. Man, that looks bad.

Trailer Mufasa: The Lion King | Teaser Trailer

Seems to have made 1.6 billion dollars at the worldwide box office, the most for any animated movie ever. Probably worth a sequel, although I imagine it might not do as well with way less nostalgia on an original story, and the "live action" remakes having lost steam for Disney.

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

In all seriousness though, non-magical 5e martials can get pretty crazy, but mostly due to general rules of the system, not their own class abilities. When you can survive being bitten by a moon-sized monster, or shrug off an explosion that's like a small nuke, it's hard to say you aren't...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

The Hunter Ranger has an ability called Volley to attack everyone within 10 feet of a point as an action, so 16 medium creatures, or even 64 tiny creatures if they're all crammed together (a lot more if you consider 3-D space).

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

If we want a superhuman thing that D&D humans can pull off, a level 1 Rogue or Fighter can grapple a Rhinoceros in place against its will, and even drag it around. Need a bit of luck, but it's definitely possible, even for the purely non-magical classes.

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

The Rogue's Evasion ability lets them dodge point blank dynamite explosions with no cover, lightning bolts from clouds and hails of bullets from automatic rifles.

    D&D 5E Polymorph vs. Petrified

I'd say Polymorph works normally. If the person turned into an object, then even Greater Restoration wouldn't help since it says it targets a creature.

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

Yep, the issue is both a lack of scaling and the effects on save failures often being too punishing.

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

The effects are bonkers, frightened makes most melee characters useless since they can't approach the enemy, and it's a basic condition that gets thrown around a lot. Getting paralyzed, losing actions, being slowed or charmed in an AoE, completely possessed, straight up one-shot to 0, turned...

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

Saves not scaling at all can get crazy with the kinds of abilities even extremely low CR creatures can have. For example, a pixie is CR 1/4, and it has Polymorph and Phantasmal Force, two spells that can end a fight for a character if they land. At level 1 they're an okay chunk of an encounter's...

    D&D 5E D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

You don't really need to rule anything, it says so explicitly: Ironically, it worked pretty well in one of my games, the Wizard used it to save an ally that was knocked out and swallowed by a monster, just moved the mind inside the thing and Dimension Door out.

    D&D 5E D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

For Manifest Mind, it can move through creatures, but not objects. Limits their movement more, although it's still pretty strong.

    D&D 5E D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

To beat it by themselves, 4 Aarakocra PCs with ranged weapons/cantrips should do it, if it's outside. It can't hit back, and they can whittle it down from safety. Not very fair, since even the Tarrasque would fall to such a party, but you do what you gotta do.

I suggest buying 100 slings and buffing a Bard as much as possible to Persuade 100 commoners to help you out.

D&D (2024) Scaling monsters in the Monster Manual?

Pathfinder 2e has numbers for statistics per level that a monster can have, so you can level a creature up and down pretty easily. If it has High AC as a level 5, just give it the High AC value for level 10 if you want to make it stronger like that. It's not perfect, since there's abilities that...

    D&D 5E D&D Beyond Releases 2023 Character Creation Data

I recalled Dragon Heist having a troll fight earlier on, and checking it you fight one at level 2, but it's weakned to 44 HP, and there's a CR 9 guy holding it off while you deal with some stirges, then you can just throw oil to set it on fire. One troll I'd say is too much for a level 1...
