D&D General How do you handle doubling of classes?

Wait, so are you saying the DM is planning to create a DMPC that happens to also be a rogue? At the very least I'd ask him how this character would differ from yours, the player. Is it not possible to just use an NPC stat block that's been rehashed?

Is this game active again? I swear the title changed from earlier today...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Still in Tomb of Annihilation. We finally gathered all the puzzle cubes over the course of four or five sessions and made it to the Tomb of the Nine Gods!!!

D&D General How do you handle doubling of classes?

All bard party go!!!! On a more related note, I think this issue is also seen outside a class when a concept overlaps between two different classes. For example, I'm currently in a PbP game where another player (who unfortunately dropped) and I picked Aberrant Mind Sorcerer and Great Old One...

    D&D 5E Epic Monsters: Ōphan

Very nice stat write-up! I was hoping for some kind of aura that caused creatures within it to make WIS saving throws or be frightened at the sight of it (no need to make subsequent saving throws for 24 hours after succeeding at the end of each turn) to play up the whole "be not afraid" schtick. :p

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Sounds appropriate. Maybe it should have some benefit when it spends an action to dip its hat in an enemy's blood (for example, advantage on attacks or add proficiency bonus to damage rolls for the next minute)?

More player races??? Hell yeah! Where my redcap race tho :(

D&D 5E Is Ray of Frost d8's or d6's in damage?

Mine says d8s. Some of the few damaging cantrips that I'm aware that do d6 damage are Acid Splash and Sword Burst, and those have the potential to hit multiple enemies.

Where and how do you play?

My group played on Roll20 for two or three sessions before we decided to switch to Foundry. I vaguely recall using their A/V features without much problem, but nowadays we keep Discord running to use as voice chat.

Where and how do you play?

I'm playing online: one with my friends over Discord (and heavily supplemented with a VTT) and I'm about to get into my first PbP game ever (Mausritter).

    D&D 5E Players railroading dungeonmasters

I recently created a character in an upcoming game that unbeknownst to me has the same surname as another PC's. The game I'm playing confers backgrounds based on dice rolls, and the two characters have radically different ones (one comes from a life of decadence while the other works a menial...

D&D General What role do the planes play in your games?

Currently in a Tomb of Annihilation campaign, so no plane shenanigans. My DM's next campaign is supposed to deal with eldritch artifacts which may or may not create portals to other planes in Eberron, so who knows if us PCs will be flung into Syrania.

D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie should follow the Deadpool model

I think that if it's going to be played straight without a framing device (the campaign isn't being played by players), it should be an established well-known D&D setting like Eberron; it'd be harder to do something like Forgotten Realms and differentiate it from other high-fantasy films. The...

Why the Strong Preference for Discord in Remote Games?

Checking on Zoom's pricing plans I can see another reason why gamers are more likely to use Discord: if you're only using the Free plan in Zoom, group meetings are limited to 40 minutes, which means that you'd have to restart meetings multiple times if you're doing a 3-5 hour session, and the...

Why the Strong Preference for Discord in Remote Games?

Discord's been able to do video for a long time now; just click on the "Video" button in the lower-left corner of the interface while connected to a voice channel. In terms of video quality, I haven't really noticed any significant differences between the two.

Why the Strong Preference for Discord in Remote Games?

I find Discord to be less of a hassle than Zoom. I always have it open, and depending on the group, a campaign can take up one whole server, which means multiple text channels for IC and OOC, and voice channels to speak in. The server is technically always active, whereas Zoom meetings have to...

D&D General Using dreams to plant adventure hooks or provide motivation

I would give out dreams sparingly, and prophetic ones even less (unless they dabble in the arcane or divine). Even though D&D is supernatural, when most people dream, more often than not it's more their subconsciousness bubbling up to the forefront. In my opinion, dreams shouldn't really make up...

    D&D 5E NPC Allies?

The rule of thumb I go by is "Are the players and you having fun with this NPC in the party?" If everyone likes the NPC's presence, leave them in.
