Pretty sure I remember them saying the stuff left over from XGE and TCE that doesn't get plugged into a new core book will get republished in a standalone book (they could call it "Xanathar's and Tasha's Tasty Leftovers").

I was wrong about the name being Ancestries, but they must not have been consistent in calling it anything besides Race prior to now, because it was even called Race in the 2022 Character Origins UA made in preparation for this exact book.

Race is now called "Species" (wasn't it Ancestries or something in UA?). Interesting change. I know a lot of people advocated for that. (Also they're including more of them in the PHB this time.) EDIT: I was wrong about Ancestries.

It was clearly de-prioritized by management, as it's been delayed into oblivion despite being "done in a day or two"-tier easy (for 3 & 3.5e SRDs, anyway). One could argue the layoffs by management prevented it by way of loss of manpower, but I think that would only be an excuse for it and not...

Bit of a passive-aggressive tone in there. My point is that there is no "THE creative commons" license, which is what you said it had. And if all anyone wants to do is legally share barebones rules PDFs on the internet, all of them accomplish that. For anything beyond that, those specifics matter.

That update was pushed out at the same time a bunch of core book errata was published. I found a video about it from back when Dragon+ was a thing. I just checked my copy of the 2018 Basic Rules PDF, and all the relevant Monster Manual errata and DMG errata were implemented. But I was curious...

On a related note, what are our expectations for the printable PDF of the Basic Rules? Will that be further revised with tweaked core rules and revised Ancestry/Class rules or just left to whither as a "compatible on-boarding asset"?
