Where i share my experiences with DCC (as a noob)

In our weekly FLGS DCC game we finished our 31st session ... one character was brought to 0 hp but saved by his companions. After the initial funnel, we've had 4 deaths, mostly henchmen or 0-level characters ... the possibility of death is there, and it makes the players stress over encounters...

Where i share my experiences with DCC (as a noob)

You don't have to kill characters, you can set the lethality at whatever you want, it's not baked into the game that PCs need to die to make the game work ...

Where i share my experiences with DCC (as a noob)

I have a 5-panel DM screen that has the common critical hit/fumble tables, and use the purple sorcerer website to print spells out for my players -- beyond that, I really don't need to access many tables at all, maybe 1-2 a session like an adventure-based random encounter table, or a monster...

Need Recommendations For A Gaming Table

Hey folks ... I'm looking to replace my gaming table set up. Currently I use two Ikea expandable tables that have end leaves that go from 3x3 to 3x5, so combined it's 6x4 or 6x5. What I'm looking for is a collapsing or foldable 4x6 ... anyone have any recommendations?

OSR New Blog - DCC RPG Boggard

Hey everyone, It's been a while since I blogged, and I'm working on a potential DCC RPG Barrowmaze game when in-person gaming can resume. So I made another entry in my bestiary, the Boggard ... but not the one you are thinking of...

    OSR DCC Augury Tables Expanded

It's been a little while since I blogged, so as I sit here enjoying my New Year's Day tradition of watching the entire LOTR trilogy (expanded DVD set, of course) and eating Chinese food, I thought I would post our DCC group's expanded augury table. It also occurs to me this is usable for your...

D&D 5E New Blog - Faction Mechanics - Generic Factions

Yep, absolutely! If the PCs try to build renown with competing or opposing factions, I'd offset gains 1 to 2 or 1 to 1, if the factions know what you are doing -- the Merchant Council won't appreciate you doing side gigs for the Thieves' Guild ...

D&D 5E New Blog - Faction Mechanics - Generic Factions

New blog is up! Something I did in my home campaign is build some light faction rules for generic organizations, to hook players into not just doing a good deed for the Temple of Churcainn, or the Merchant Council of Goethe, but also motivate them to be hooked and immersed in the world's...

D&D General In the Beginning ...

Got a creation myth for your world? How many years ago did the celestials fall to the Nine Hells? Why is sorcery different than wizardry? Why do people worship the gods? Here's my blog article explaining what I wrote for my campaign world ...

    D&D 5E Making 5E Feel Old School

It's a fair question, and I take it as a genuine one. Here's what I think. I've played all sorts of games. D&D, AD&D, D&D 2E, Gurps, Fantasy Hero, Call of Cthulu, Paranoia, Harnmaster, D&D 3E, D&D 3.5E, Pathfinder, DCC, D&D 5E ... lots of other ones too. Each game has a different flavour ...

    D&D 5E Making 5E Feel Old School

I'm a huge fan of 3d6 in order for my DCC games, but I am not sure that would work in a 5E game, as stats are a lot more critical to character success in the long run where 1E/AD&D stats are less integral without skills and lower bonuses/penalties to combat and saving throws. That being said...

    D&D 5E Making 5E Feel Old School

Interesting idea ... I looked at the Wight and it's level drain is pretty kind compared to AD&D days, but the old school permanent loss of XP is definitely too punitive. Maybe change it to a restoration of 1 hp per day? Or a level of exhaustion that requires a potent cure spell to remove?

    DCC Encumbrance Simplified

Agreed JD, it's all numbers. Smaller numbers are easier to manage by players, easier to adjudicate by GMs, and leaves more time for adventuring.

    DCC Encumbrance Simplified

Because my players tend to lose track of what they are carrying ... suddenly they've looted 16 sets of chainmail, a tapestry, 16 spears, and 12,000 gp ... and don't have an easy explanation of who is carrying what .... This is a simpler alternative to bookkeeping for my game ...
