    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

I agree it’s a challenge, however the existing solution is templates. Every current GURPS product which does anything with characters (therefore pretty much all of them) includes multiple templates showing you what stats, advantages, disadvantages, and skills to buy to fit with a character...

Podcast #370 Livestream: Forgotten Realms Book Details, WFRP 5E, GURPS 4.5E, What's Cooking With Dragonlance?

You were speculating on the market value of WotC versus Games Workshop. Some internet searching suggest WotC is worth notionally $2.5bn, while GW is closer to $7bn.

What TTRPGs Excel At Not Having Combat?

That says GURPS to me… And really, this comes back to engine versus implied (or stated) world. With a system like GURPS you can run any campaign concept you want, you aren’t looking for a specific niche game. And GURPS has lots of detail on non-combat skills etc; just apply those to whatever...

What TTRPGs Excel At Not Having Combat?

Another option could be Chuubo’s Magical Wish Granting Engine. While it can include combat it can also do pastoral, slice-of-life kind of stuff. It’s more about the journey than the destination s I understand it.

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

I suspect commercial pilots have a higher than 12 in Piloting. You could probably work it out using the rules for points via training and calculating the amount of flight hours someone needs to achieve / maintain certification. That is an exercise left for the reader…

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

Kromm has shared some more details. The work is quite far developed but a formal announcement won’t come for a few weeks yet. It might get into the New Year before the formal announcement with full details.

    Pulp RPGs General Thread [+]

I love pulp of every kind - pulp fantasy, pulp sci-fi, pulp horror, pulp supers. Savage Worlds is a great engine for pulp in my experience and does all those genres well. To be a really good system for pulp in my book, an RPG has to support characters who are capable but not indestructible...

Ken Burnside on how screwed Asmodee is

If Asmodee are managing the brand on behalf of MEE then they would have to get the best deal for them. So Asmodee can’t simply give themselves the license for nothing or peanuts. They would have to out-bid Sophisticated Games for it, which they could do irrespective.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Daggerheart, Curseborne, Shadow Scar, and more

Getting into the last 48 hours is an expansion for Hexploration Decks. These are a pretty cool set of GM aids for hex crawling, I use them for solo gaming but they are equally useful for GM prep or improv. This camping is adding two new decks but you can also pick up the five existing...

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

The points costs will be set to keep a degree of parity between systems. At the end of the day, the GM sets the point total, and if you want broadly capable characters that costs.

Ken Burnside on how screwed Asmodee is

I’m a board gamer too, so the overall health of the company is of interest to me. [Edit for context - the post I was responding to is gone]

Ken Burnside on how screwed Asmodee is

Also - this is probably a net-good for Asmodee as company. It sounds to me like they are leveraging their expertise on brand management, providing a service to MEE for some kind of service charge or commission. This would probably be a whole new revenue stream for Asmodee and help get them out...

Ken Burnside on how screwed Asmodee is

To mis-quote Inigo Montoya - I don’t think that post means what you think it means. I think it just means they are taking over brand management on behalf of MEE. The post states all the existing licenses remain in place. Also - The One Ring isn’t Free League’s game, they just publish it. Same...

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

For fantasy, you may well be right. The things 4e does ‘better’ than 3e are mostly around genre hopping and mixing things up as it is a more consolidated system. 3e was an organic set of sometimes conflicting rules made up as they were needed.

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

Power Ups 10: Skill Trees has a system where about 26 ‘trunk’ skills encompass the scope of all the 200+ skills in the core book with a fractal structure which still allows individual characters to specialise in sub-elements of those skill trees. There is another Power Ups volume in...

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

Dungeon Fantasy gives solid mechanical support for dungeon exploration and creative engagement with the environment. That’s one of the strengths of GURPS - you can apply logic and creativity to problems and it won’t be just a simple skill check or GM call. And characters can have a breadth of...

    GURPS 4th Edition Revised Announced

Luck is once per hour of game play as the base level of usage, which is not a diegetic mechanic. There are optional rules for ‘buying success’ which is more akin to fate points and so on, too, but Luck is a core rule.
