Ran across a blog post yesterday where someone claimed "Grognard" status because they started playing 2nd edition in the 80's. I thought to myself: "Kid, I have polyhedrons older than you." ;)

Agree with all of the suggestions above. You can't go wrong. I have a whole box full of the Thieves Guild/Haven stuff in my basement. Time to dig it out and enjoy it again.

We will continue to play whatever game and whatever version of that game, appeals to us. This is the $54,000 question. It would, presumably, cut loose a number of players who might abandon 4e D&D due to the fact that no new product will be produced. How large that number might be is debatable...

A few more ideas: Check with the local game shop and see if they have someone who can run something like D&D Encounters or Pathfinder Society if you were to buy and donate prizes - these could be raffled off or awarded at the end of the game. Might be just the kind of nudge needed to get people...

Agreed, even more so if you consider that borrowing/using a friends book and dice at the game table, which I suspect many did when first getting into this hobby, drops the dollar cost to zero.
