Dragon magazine 330 April- Far Rælmy goodness

I was actually rather disappointed with the issue. My wife and I agree that the cover is astonishingly ugly... and considering the Mind Flayer on the cover, why aren't there any in the issue?

The look of the 'far realm' article was so off putting I haven't been able to actually read it yet. The bit about the Jester just made me roll my eyes, and the little bit abut the Commoners was pretty funny, though.

I dunno. I'll probably give it a second look when I get back from France, but it was annoying enough of an issue I never really considered bringing it along as reading material, even though it arrived just before I left.

In other news, picked up two issues of Dungeon and oohed and aahed over them. I'll probably pick up a subscription to that, instead.

Part pf the april fools joke{PC death is very funny to DMs with PC insanity being even MORE funny]. Plus they are a monster that can apear in the far realm random monster chart.

The background shading is not that strong at all, dragon has had far worse colour combinations. And those critters are soo cute.

Now the article on tribal dark elves... whats next, a d20 modern article with drow gangs doing drider-bys? :heh:

Ecology of the Chull: Looks interesting, but an actual picture of a chull close up would have been nice.

My understanding is that they tried for this, but the chuul kept messily devouring the Paizo photographer.

(Seriously, though...there's already an illustraton of a chuul in the MM. Were you wanting a different one?)

I can't remember a single issue where the cover illustrated something found inside, monster or not. For years and years it's just been nice fantasy art that relates to the theme of the issue, before that it was just whatever TSR could get.

Most magazines are this way.

Ah, those were the days. Indeed, I think every single memorable Dragon cover was from the period where they put a nice cover on the issue without it having to be themed for the issue (with a few exceptions - such as a Halloweenish cover for the October issue).

Personally I loved the Far Realms article. Especially the magic items tied to dreams, great for a CoC+DnD game, which I know several on these boards are interested in. I also liked the Chuul article, made me think about including one when I otherwise might not have. Ditto, the drow article. Not playing in Eberron, but I would be more likely to add the Umbragen to a game than the drow (of which I have never seent he appeal).

And the Commoner Flaws made my wife laugh out loud.

The Jester article was just kind of "eh". Haven't read the fiction yet, but Eberron fiction is one of the few DnD lines that I have picked up so I will at some point.

Wow, an issue that I might buy (last one I have is 317).

Oh and it is chuul.

But I spelled Incomprehensible right ;)

That was my thinking, that the artist just didn't want to get to close.

(And it took me moment to remember what a chuul was.)

That might make a good Nodwick!

Run! It's a Chuul!!
A Ghoul?
No a Chull! You know paralyzing tentacles?
You mean a Carrior Crawler?
No a Chull!! A Chull! A Chull!!

Bless You!
