Bad news for lonely geeks

BNA News reports:

"SEPARATE SUITS CLAIM DATING SITES ENGAGE IN FRAUD
Some frustrated online daters say they were victims of fraud
by two top Internet matchmaking services and have taken
their complaints to court. Match.com is accused in a federal
lawsuit of goading members into renewing their subscriptions
through false romantic e-mails sent out by company
employees. In some instances, the suit contends, people on
the Match payroll even went on sham dates with subscribers
as a marketing ploy. In a separate suit, Yahoo's personals
service is accused of posting profiles of fictitious
potential dating partners on its Web site to make it look as
though many more singles subscribe to the service than
actually do. :\

For some reason this information does not surprise me at all. Im sure that there are many more of the "matchmaking" sites that engage in this kind of activity.

It's pretty easy to spot the fraudulent ones on Yahoo. The girls are pretty, around 24 years old, and the list of preferences they seek in a match are all marked "any".

On a realistic note, my ad that I placed at the urging of some friends has produced 7 hits from real people, including one who works in the gaming industry. So there is hope for geeks!

I'm not surprised by this at all. It's amazing how many beautiful, single women are available in my home town. I know this because of all the pop ups I get that say so.

SO that amazingly hot girl I've been talking with about gaming and sci-fi isn't real? I thought the picture looked too much like Eva Longoria.

Hell, I got **** with an attractive woman I met on Lavalife.

Heh, I've had an ad on Yahoo for like 7-8 years. One of these years I'll be bound to get a reply.

I do think Lavalife is one of the more legit ones. Because instead of charging a bunch of money a month, they work on credits. You buy like 20 credits for $10-15, and it's like 5-6 credits to send an email.

Is there a secret for personal ads? I haven't received any with mine; granted I'm not looking for a serious relationship. Did you post a picture? I need to "get over" my camera shyness :o
