PHB - Human only?

Would you go for a 4E PHB that was human only? Leave the other races to the Monster Manual. After all, they're going to be in the MM anyway, so why duplicate? You'd just put in a brief bit saying that other playable races are detailed in the MM and save a few pages that could be used for something else.

Better the other way

How's about we don't put these guys in the Monster Manual, note at the beginning that humanoid races from the PHB can be baddies too, give a set of humanoid 'mook' rules in the DMG and use the space in the MM for more nasty monstery goodness?

It seems that most of us think that you should continue to take the shiny pills the doctors keep giving to you!

Anyway, it seems clear that a character race entry and a monster entry will be completely different. It won't be duplicte information.

And one other important part: Players aren't supposed to touch the Monster Manual.

Meh.

I can think of ways to make this work, but they boil down to subverting the question as asked. At best, it'd be a waste of the racial talent thing.

I think the poll lets guests vote, because I voted, but I wasn't logged in, and my name doesn't show up under "Don't think so".

Anyway, I think D&D should at least have humans, dwarves, and elves as playable races. Probably halflings, too.

I generally prefer human-only settings, so I guess having D&D default to that would make it easier for me to find a game in the kind of setting I like, so I guess I should be in favor of it... but I just can't bring myself to vote yes. The thought of a D&D Players' Handbook without elves and dwarves is just too weird to contemplate.
