Is there a non-magic paladin or a paladin with Chr based spells?

The Paladin variant from Complete Champion would be perfect, IMO. It works great. :)

Dragon magazine #349 (p. 93) offers a bunch of fiendslaying options for Paladins, some of which are quite cool (again, IMO.)

And your first bunch of stats should be fine there. Though personally, I might go for Dex 12 and Str 15, if not more so.

edit --- 349, not 359. :uhoh:
Double oops. On closer inspection a favored soul gets bonus spells based on Chr and uses Chr to determine spells cast, but Wis for saves. That stinks. What a jip.

I'll work around it. On the plus side I can now take a cleric and not feel that I am missing out on anything :)

What exactly is the varient in the complete champion? I don't have that one.

But options for dealing with fiends do you mean substitution levels or feats? I'll check it out tonight when I get home.

How about the Divine Crusader PrC from Complete Divine? Take the Healing domain if you want to be a healer or you might also consider the Glory or Instinct domains. The class itself is a little weak, so you'll want to pick up another PrC like Contemplative which gives you more domains after you get Weapon Specialisation. On the way there, consider levels in Knight. Something like Pal 2 / Kt 5 / DC 5 / CC 2 ...

For extra Cha-monkey cheese with delayed effect, try Pal 2 / Ftr 2 / Bd 4 / DC 2 / Mystic Theurge 8.

A feat for each level where a new spell level would've been gained. Pretty simple, but there's nothing wrong with it. Especially when a bonus feat can be 'any Divine Feat' for instance. :)

Neither - alternate class abilities, again. Hang on a sec. . .

Hm, only one or two of them are directly relevant, and all of them require giving up some Pal ability or other. Still, there might be one that appeals.

It's not a section dedicated to fiendhunting or the like, but yeah, one or two things. Maybe.

I know what the Glory Domain is, what and where is the instinct domain from?

Sometimes I like the alternate class stuff better than feats. There are way too many feats. I will check it out when I get home. Thanks.

Again, why not Crusader, from Book of 9 Swords? It's likely as close as you could get to a 4th edition Paladin...
I'll check that out too. I'll have to stop by our local hobby shop, I don't have that book either.

At the risk of being browbeaten by hordes of wuxia/anime fans, Bo9S is not everyone's cup of tea. None of the groups I game with allow it in play. It's on the verboten list along with psionics, incarnum and invocations. Aside from the balance issues, which no Bo9S fan will ever admit even exist, there are two main factors:

1.) Complexity - at mid to higher-levels, d20 3.5 combat already slows to a snails pace, under core only rules. Throw in things like maneuvres and stances, the blowout gets even worse.

2.) Flavor - the kung-fu/wuxia tone of Bo9S really doesn't mesh that well with the Arthurian/Tolkien/Conanesque themes of "traditional" D&D. (Obviously, IMHO).

*So as not to derail this thread, please let my public stoning begin in a new or existing Bo9S topic. ;)
