Rodney Thompson's Playtest Report on Gleemax

I'm going to regret this . . .

I know I'm going to regret this . . .

I think we can be fairly sure that GWA was not the renamed feat. This playtest report sounds like a high-Heroic/low-Paragon tier game, and GWA is an Epic feat.

Doesn't mean that GWA hasn't been renamed, or may not be renamed based on player feedback, but I'm pretty confident that it wasn't the feat Rodney was talking about.

And Rodney, what are you doing playtesting 4E? You've got Star Wars material to write! Priorities, man, priorities! :)

Ray of Frost never had a slow effect before, has it?

I know that ice spells in World of Warcraft have slow effects attached to them.

Hey, wait a minute. I might be onto something here...

They do in Diablo 2 as well. Oh noes, the Diabloization of D&D!

Golden Wyvern Adept
Tier: Paragon
Benefit: You can omit a number of squares from the effects of any of your area or close wizard powers. This number can’t exceed your Wisdom modifier.

It could be any feat though. I was more interested that they are still renaming things at this late stage - given the almost universally negative response to GWA I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it.

Thanks for the correction; I could have sworn it was Epic when I read the article, but looking at it, it's Paragon. (Misremembering on my part, or a stealth edit? :) )

EDIT: And on the copy of the article I posted to these boards, it's still Paragon. I must be taking Intelligence damage from somewhere. :o

Actually, we're 2nd level. We might hit 3rd, depending on how much XP we got last session (we ended at like midnight, so Chris didn't have time to give us XP).

Hey man, I run two Star Wars games a week, I gotta get my game on some time. I just happy to be lucky enough to play in a game run by Chris Perkins, the Best DM of All Time. Besides, I've done more on 4E than just playtest, but it's not slowing down the Star Wars stuff.

Huh. A 2nd-level group takes on 15 goblins and a dragon. Apparently what we're hearing about 4E characters able to deal with more foes at once is true. :)

[Vader]Excuse accepted, Mr. Thompson[/Vader] :D

So you fought fifteen goblins (including spellcasters) and a copper dragon (which didn't seem to be a wyrmling) using rays of frost, magic missles, wide area scorching attacks, teleportation, and various other cool moves, in only two hours... at second level!?!? I really need to get 4E now.

Well, so much for the GWA theory...

I take it that this was a little copper dragon?

Three impressions from this-

3. Am I the only one that thinks that giving a race an inherent teleport ability as being bad? Why bother picking locks- let the eladrin teleport behind the door. That ability seems like it will short circuit a lot of standard low level hazards.

Its possible that passing through the fey wild has the same restrictions as the corporeal world. Its also possible and likely that its just a speed boost that lets one pass through enemies for combat purposes. yay flanking. We dont know if it really is a teleport or not.

edit* never mind, got here late.

It could be in the Golden Wyvren or similar themed schools, just one of the low level feats for the tradition.

I'm boggled at what they fought and did at 2nd level though. I'm not sure I like it. I like the idea of starting out weak and growing in power. I just hope that was a baby dragon.

Also there was a mention of the dragon getting a special breath weapon attack when bloodied. I think it can be cool for monsters but I'm not sure i want many perks to come from getting your butt kicked for the players. I'm interested to see what they do with this.
