D&D 4E Original 4E Monsters

Have you thought at all about updating the Orcs to bring them closer to the newly released official versions? Just wondering.

Also, are there any plans of compiling all of these into one handy document? I looked through the thread and don't remember seeing anything, but it's a long thread so I could have missed it.

Just for fun, compare a blood-crazed (my template) orc berserker to an orc bloodrager, both from the new preview.

I definitely intend to update the orcs I've done. I also intend to make a big PDF, but I won't be working on it in much until end of May beginning of June, when I have time to actually do so. Though there is a chance I'll get some things done before that.

Kenneth New had compiled a pdf with about half of the monsters, which you can download from here. where Malcolm_n is keeping it.

And I wouldn't sweat it, Malcolm - I've got a couple weeks off from work starting on May 27th and I plan on working like crazy on this then.

Yeah, definitely. I'll probably drop the rager entirely (which is sorta what I expected when I made it, to be honest. I just wanted something to apply blood-crazed to). Now that I know what orcs are options and see their flavor (love it), I do think I'll do a couple more.
 


This is probably not the best place to ask, but I like the way you think, Keterys:

I know you've been playing your 4E campaign, so I bet you're past 2nd level. My party reaches second this week, and I need a Ranger Utility. Do you have one? I'd make my own, but I really don't have a grasp on utility powers. I've got the ones from KotS for my other classes, but for the life of me I can't guess what a Ranger Utility 2 would look like.

They're turning 6th next week, in fact... but I don't have a Ranger. Some quick ideas:

Movement
* Sidestep (Encounter) * Minor Action. Shift 1 square.
* Sprint (Encounter) * Move double speed as a move action, gives combat advantage
* Tumble (Encounter) * Shift half speed as a move action

Defensive
* Leapback (Encounter) * Immediate Reaction to shift 1 square when an enemy moves adjacent
* Duck (Daily) * Immediate reaction on being hit by an attack. Reroll the attack.

Offensive
* Steady Aim (Encounter) * Minor Action. Quarried target only. You gain a +2 power bonus to attack rolls against the target, until you move from your square.
* Hawk Eye (Daily) * For encounter, you do not suffer any penalties for cover or concealment in normal range, and do not suffer a range penalty for long range.

I'd worry the most about Leapback - might be a little too good. Could make it require an attack first, which I suppose would almost guarantee its balance.

Like the phane and pit fiend, some people are less happy with how these turned out, so... a quick elite hill giant and a solo earth titan. Titan could use some rewording, but you'll get the flavor of it at least.
