Who will take a vacation from these boards?

I think I am going to be camping the boards when I receive the books. In fact, if they get to my remote part of the world on time, I will retreat to a place where my wife and daughter can't find me, to read the PHB while posting about opinions and any rule that doesn't make sense.

The only vacation I will have is that I will be spending time reading the new books rather than the boards. :)

That shouldn't take all that long.

The focus of the boards won't bother me - I'm a fan of Basic, 1st 3rd and am looking forward to 4th. The content will still be there for me.

Plus it will be a great resource in watching for 3rd party releases for 4th. I tend to hit the three boards I read as part of my morning routine (Here, Hero games and RPG.net). I don't see that changing.

I will be taking a vacation from the boards.

To go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico! :D

As much as I look forward to 4e, it can wait a week for fishing! I would greatly appreciate it if there were some kind of "must read" thread compilation somewhere, though. ;) Keep them fires burning while I'm gone.

I plan on being VERY active in the 4E rules forum* and the Counters thread i've been working in [see sig].

*Without the option to copypasta the SRD text, I am betting rules arguments will get very messy.

I don't see me going anywhere, but not being interested in 4E sure makes my stays here much quicker for each visit.

On the other hand, 5E may be out soon enough to bring my attention back. ;)

Oh DaveMage, you don't know how lucky you are. You don't have to read so many threads (and get a bad conscience because you should be working), and you don't have to spend money on new rulebooks!

I envy you.

Okay, not really. It's self-inflicted "pain", and as such, I'm fine with it. :)

I don't think I will go on "vacation" from these boards. I hope I will spend a little less time here to have time for something else, but it's not something I am actively aiming for. ;)

I'm kind of looking forward to not scouring every thread looking for tidbits to include in the PrRC, since it will be retired June 5. I'll still visit regularly, but my guess is I'll be in the Fan-made/Custom Content section more than the Rules section.

I will miss all the speculation though! As an archaeologist by training, speculation with limited evidence is our bread-and-butter, so to speak. I guess there is always PHB II :)

I've been trending this way, too. My main interest is the pre-WotC versions of D&D, which isn't really EN World's focus, and I've been seeing fewer and fewer topics that I care about participating in. (That's not a criticism of EN World -- it's just the way things are.)

I do have a suggestion, though. With the recent redesign, I see that discussion of older edition rules is supposed to take place in the 3.X forum. So there are three places one might talk about older editions: the General forum, the 3.X Rules forum, and the 3.X House Rules forum. However, for anyone interested in pre-WotC older editions, the signal to noise ratio is terrible. In the General forum, we can bypass that by setting the category to "1E/2E/OD&D," and go directly to the threads of interest. In the rules forums, there's no way to do that. If there were a similar category in the rules forums, that would help.

I won't be taking a vacation from the boards exactly, but rather I won't be as active on the boards because I'll be too busy reading the books and making character concepts, etc. After I've done that for a while, sure, I'll have more time to be more active on the boards.

So, yes, I will be on the boards less for a little while after 4e is released. But, no, I'm not actively avoiding the boards nor am I going to not going to come here for the sake of not coming here... i'll just be busy (with the books).

Ditto!
