[Conan] Unchained! - your experiences?

First Post
Thirty-fifth thread of a series on the old classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules. It is interesting to see how everyone's experiences compared and differed.

Conan Unchained!

Did you Play or DM this adventure (or both, as some did)? How about the other Conan adventure, Against Darkness? What were your experiences? Did you complete it? What were the highlights for your group?

Personally, I found these moduels to just be bad. I don't have them anymore but when we ran it it just did not camputer Conan for us.

The continuity in the adventure was all over the place - I never really liked the transfer from the Khan's camp to the evil wizards island. I never ran the game, but I used bits and pieces of it librally in a dozen campaigns. The Manotor, the basic layout and feel of the camp, and the concept of luck points have all appeared once or twice in games I've run.

Found a copy at Waldenbooks that had had its shrinkwrap removed (remember when all of the modules came shrinkwrapped?!), flipped through it, thought it looked lame, and never bought it. To this day this (along with the other Conan module, the Red Sonja module, and a handful of others) is one of the few 1st ed. AD&D products I've never owned.

So, does that count as an "experience"? :)

I bought this one but never ran it as written (mainly because everbody wanted to play Conan). Like arwink, I ripped bits and pieces from it and used them in other games. I liked the overall feel of the adventure and the way it presented monsters but didn't really go for the plot itself. (The same goes for Conan Against Darkness too).

I had a great time with this module. But of course I was 13 at the time.

Recently I came across my copy -- still in good shape! Although I would never run it 'as is', I think I might rip some things out of it for other purposes at some point.

That's a HELL of a typo, Crothian. Kudos. You have now set the bar. I'll have to post drunk from now on just to stand a chance. :D (I'm being totally good-natured)
